Stone Bank School
Reaching Out Newsletter ~ April 5, 2024
Hello Stone Bank Families,
This week, we started our 4th quarter of the school year! Time has flown by, but we have a lot of learning left to accomplish. Like the spectacular growth we see in nature during the spring, our students blossom and grow in amazing ways, too.
Spring brings renewed energy with longer days and warmer weather. We hope to capitalize on that energy in our students as we help them continue to put into practice our third quarter school-wide themes of perseverance and growth mindset by reflecting with them on how much they have grown, setting new goals with them, and helping our students work hard to achieve those goals.
The fourth quarter of school can also tempt students to take their foot off the gas and coast to the end of the year. To encourage a strong finish, our fourth-quarter school-wide themes focus on honesty and responsibility.
Honesty is a vital skill that extends beyond the classroom and school. Taking the time to think about your choices and the ramifications of each one before acting is a fundamental aspect of decision-making and requires the development of self-awareness and empathy. Mistakes and their natural consequences help students grow and learn. Everyone makes mistakes, but recognizing and being truthful about them when they happen is another facet of honesty that our students must develop with guidance at home and school.
Responsibility focuses on being prepared, doing your job, and being someone others can count on. At school, we develop responsibility by setting clear expectations, modeling responsible behavior, creating routines, and providing opportunities for independence. Teaching children that responsibility extends beyond themselves instills a sense of community that can help them understand the impact of their actions on the world around them.
We are excited about all the learning opportunities and celebrations offered by the 4th quarter of school! Remember to share those great happenings with friends and neighbors. Open enrollment remains open until April 30th. We would love to welcome more new families to Stone Bank School!
Sincerely,
Dawn Preisler

Solar Eclipse - Monday, April 8th, 2024
On Monday, April 8, 2024, Wisconsin will experience a partial solar eclipse. Approximately 89% of the sun's light will be blocked by the moon. The next opportunity to experience this type of event will be 20 years from now in 2044! This provides a unique educational opportunity for our students.
Stone Bank School is prepared to safely view the eclipse, which will start at 12:52 p.m., reach its maximum coverage at 2:08 p.m., and end at 3:22 p.m. The PTO has purchased enough American Astronomical Society (AAS) approved solar eclipse glasses for all students. Mrs. Sedlachek received a donation of 25 pairs from the Town Hall Library, and Mrs. Pautsch donated another batch, so all of our staff have glasses, too.
Weather permitting, teachers will take their classes outside for eclipse viewing. Classes may spend a few minutes outside wearing their eclipse glasses a time or two during the eclipse. These will be short structured viewing events, not a recess. Teachers will educate students on the reasons for wearing the glasses at all times while they are outside during the eclipse. Classroom shades will be closed if there is a view of the sun unless students are instructed to put their glasses on for an indoor check on the eclipse's progress. Since our school dismissal is during the eclipse timeframe, all students will be instructed to avoid looking at the sun. They will be allowed to take their eclipse glasses with them if parents would like to share in the experience at dismissal or upon arriving at home.
Classes will also be able to follow the eclipse's progress through NASA's live coverage beginning at 1 p.m. EDT, offering live views from various locations across North America.

If you have any questions or would prefer your child not to participate in the eclipse viewing, please contact your child's teacher or the main office at 262-966-2900 before 12:00 P.M. on Monday.
Sincerely,
Dawn Preisler

Select Stone Bank Students will gain exposure to forensics and debate activities this month. Forensics and debate are both competitive activities that involve public speaking, critical thinking, and argumentation, but they have distinct differences.
Forensics typically involves prepared speeches or presentations, where participants present arguments, analyses, or interpretations on a given topic or issue. These presentations can include speeches, declamations, or interpretations of literature.
Debate involves structured argumentation between two opposing teams or individuals on a specific topic. Debaters are required to argue either in favor of or against a proposition or resolution. They need to develop arguments on the spot and often engage in direct refutation of their opponents' arguments.
Monday, April 8th, Gwen Reinke, Ellie Hall, Vivi McDowell, Charlie Strickland, and Hailey Pautsch will participate in a forensics workshop at Waterford Graded School District to learn about the format, preparation, and evaluation criteria of forensics competitions.
Our Stone Bank School Debate Club members are currently preparing for a debate competition to be held at CESA #2 on Friday, April 26th.
We are excited for the opportunities these students have to develop their communication and critical thinking skills!
Stone Bank School Summer Spectacular 2024
Strong Learners * Strong Leaders * Strong Community Members
Stone Bank School Summer Spectacular offers TWO great opportunities for summertime learning and FUN! We can't wait to spend our summer with you!
Please refer to this reference sheet when registering.
Stone Bank School ‘Summer School’ Classes 2024
June 13th - July 11th, 1-3pm
No classes July 3rd, 4th and 5th
SBS Summer school classes are designed to offer students the opportunity to learn through play and fun!
We built our schedule to specifically offer a continuation of summer school classes in the afternoon as some students will take part in the Arrowhead Area Summer Cooperative at North Lake School in the morning.
The Summer Cooperative classes at North Lake run during the same calendar dates, from June 13th to July 11th (off July 3rd, 4th and 5th), from 8am - noon. At noon students are offered bus transportation back to Stone Bank School and can then take part in the SBS summer programming in the afternoon.
Students who are transported back to SBS by bus should pack a bag lunch. They will eat lunch in the commons followed by some recess time on the playground. Lunchtime and recess will be supervised by a SBS staff member.
After lunch, SBS classes will begin at 1pm and end at 3pm. Please be on time picking up your child as the office closes at 3pm and there will be no adult supervision after teachers leave at 3:00. Please call ahead to the office IF you will be late. Thank you for your understanding!
Below you will find class descriptions, grades, times and fees. All classes will need a minimum of 12 students to run. Classes are designed for children going into the NEXT grade level (rising) for the 2024-2025 school year.
You will need to pre-register for classes on the Google form below and make payment to the school office via cash or check (made payable to Stone Bank School) by April 30th!
After registering your child for classes, assume he/she is accepted into the selected class, unless you receive an email stating otherwise. Please register each child separately.
The cost varies for each class depending on necessary supplies/materials for that class.
Please reach out to Sarah Beneker at s.beneker@stonebank.k12.wi.us with any questions.

IF you have music for your act, you should have it in an MP3 format cut to the exact version you want. Please email that ahead of time to s.beneker@stonebank.k12.wi.us.

7th grade Flower Fundraiser
April Showers bring May FLOWERS! Spring is finally, (hopefully) here to stay, which means you can already look forward to longer days of sunshine and plan for adding a little color to your yard through gorgeous flowers, locally grown by Shady Lane Greenhouse in Menomonee Falls.
This year, our 7th grade class will be selling a wide selection of their flowers to raise funds for their field trip to Camp Whitcomb in May. Instead of making a separate trip to purchase flowers somewhere, check out all the options available on the order form from Annuals to Perennials, already potted planters and hanging baskets, and still even more to choose from yourself at Shady Lane Greenhouse in Menomonee Falls, that you can take home with Gift Certificates purchased from our 7th graders!
In addition, there are lots of great options for all types of yards and patio’s, from full sun, to partial sun, to mostly shade.
These are great gifts to share with grandparents, neighbors and friends too, or better yet, spread the word and let those you know fill out an order form of their own! (Saving them a trip to a greenhouse!). Additional order forms can be printed at home or picked up in the school office or from a 7th grader near you!
Sorry, planting isn’t included, but if you love seeing the beauty of full, colorful blooms, but just don’t have the time or don’t want to get your hands dirty, the already planted pots make it easy to enjoy these vibrant flowers all summer long around your patio or deck or driveway!
Flowers will be available for pick up at Stone Bank School beginning Friday, May 17th at 2:40 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 18th from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. and anytime after that. (You just might have to load them into your car yourself)
Order forms will be due on April 16th. Please make checks out to: STONE BANK SCHOOL PTO and send along with your order form.
If you have any question, feel free to contact: Sherrie Lorbeck, sherrie@unitybrookfield.org or (414) 477-7762. Thank you so much for supporting our 7th graders!
