Learning Curve
9th Grade
Welcome to Week 3!
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend.
Week 3 is off to a great start!
In Literature, we are continuing our work on grammar, writing and our first Literary Circle! We have chosen one of Allison's favorite novels, Diary of a Wimpy Kid! We will be completing an in-depth study of the book including vocabulary, comprehension, literary discussions, a final project and exam!
Don't forget to bring in a pleasure reading book for LC Reads!
In Pre-Algebra, we are continuing a review of basic arithmetic, exponents and working with negative and positive integers.
In Biology, we are wrapping up our review of the Scientific Method and completed our 1st lab last week. We explored Gummy Bear Absorption using the Scientific Method to investigate. Based on our prior knowledge, we discussed how four different independent variables would affect a gummy bear, created a hypothesis for each, tested and recorded our data and drew conclusions. Take a look at the pics below of our investigation!
During World Civilizations, we are studying how different countries are governed. Currently we are looking into the U.S. Constitution and will create our own class constitution. We will be piloting a new technology called BlueScape to work collaboratively on this project. Stay tuned! BlueScape will be demonstrated at Back to School Night!
In our study of Spanish we took our 1st quiz on "Greetings" and everyone did an excellent job!
Please remember to check class agendas nightly as homework is assigned daily.
Thank you for all of your help and support!
Warmly,
Ms. Hendrickson

Cardinal Kids Day at Stanford!
On Saturday, September 12th, starting at 5 PM, there will be a variety of fun, family-oriented activities available in the Fan Fest area before the Stanford football game against Central Florida, which kicks off at 7:30 PM. Tickets to the football game against Central Florida are free for our Students in Learning Curve and just $20 for older siblings and adults. Learning Curve student tickets can be asked for by contacting Ms. Hendrickson. We also wanted to see if LC families were interested in Hosting a Tailgate Social here at HTS before the game to get to know families from our new program and the middle school. Make sure that you place your order by Thursday, September 3 to guarantee that you are seated with the other Hope Technology School families. A full list of pregame activities can be found at www.gostanford.com/cardinalkidsday. Please direct any questions to Spenser Ayres at (650) 724-3914 or spayres@stanford.edu.
