Message From the Principal
Wow! What an outstanding start to the 2016-17 school year! Our cooperation and effective communication between students, staff and parents has made for a smooth, positive, successful start to the school year. So thanks to everyone for putting their best foot forward to support one another on behalf of Wheeler Students. The power of WORKING TOGETHER can never be underestimated!
Each grade level (from all 3 schools) has been and will continue meeting on 1:30 dismisal days as professional learning communities (PLC). Similar to last year, all three elementary school will focus on two common school improvement goals: One centers around the challenging area of reading and the other relates to complex problem solving in math. Our PLC meetings are critical opportunities for grade level teachers across district to brainstorm solutions to teaching and learning challenges. Increasing our teaching capacity as teachers and administrators increases the likelihood that ALL of our Plainville Students learn and make academic growth.
Your support outside the school day is also critical. This can be done in a couple of ways. For reading, make sure your child reads at night and/or you read to your child. Two, for math, ensure your child practices his or her math facts. I am sure your child's teacher has suggested several ways to do this. I strongly encourage you to keep lines of communication open with your child's teacher. Work together on behalf of your child. A positive, open homeschool communication/connection is powerful!
I have attached a home/school connection resource for you to consider. It has very practical ways to support your child's learning and development at home.
Lastly, I just want to thank our PTO and especially, our NEW PTO officers! They have only kept the teaching and learning fire burning bright at Wheeler by showing their support for our staff and I suspect they will keep charging forward! Their generosity, support, dedication and time commitment have been noticed and appreciated by all. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Mr. B.
