School's out for summer! It's time to relax & reflect.
SF Science Teacher UNWIND

Mission Science Workshop, 18th Street, San Francisco, CA
Get Together with Fellow SF Science Teachers
Hi, I'm Doug Peltz. I've taught science for the last six years, 4th - 8th grade. This time of year is always a pleasant mix of recovery & reflection. After I write the very last report card I'm excited to pick up books I've been wanting to read all year, try out some new chemistry experiments, and ...all those things I never had time for during the year.
The one thing I've never done a good job of is systematically reflecting on the year. Think about the lessons I learned. Share new ideas with other science teachers. Connect with colleagues outside of my own department.
I feel like we need an event where we all get together, unwind, and get back to the nuts-and-bolts of why we love our jobs. Trade tips that may help one another and play with science and effuse about it.
I recently moved up to SF and am eager to meet other local science teachers.
Play with science, vent, gloat, snack, and generally be merry.
I reached out to my friend Dan who runs the Mission Science Workshop. There is no better place for a bunch of science teachers to get together than the MSW space.
We'll be surrounded by Dan's pets, his collection of minerals, hundreds of bones, a few skeletons, and some hand-me-down Exploratorium exhibits. Part chemistry lab, part maker shed, part personal garage, the MSW space is a blast.
You're encouraged to bring something to show & tell if you like! I just got a canister of sulfur hexafluoride I've been meaning to play with so I'll bring that.
Hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be served (non-alcoholic, sorry).
Pubs are nearby in case afterwards anyone wants to continue the merriment while drinking beer.
Please RSVP below.
Who's hosting this?
Doug Peltz & Dan Sudran.
Doug is a recent transplant to SF. He just recently left his classroom teaching job after 6 years in SoCal. He is now working on collecting the visual evidence for every science concept, http://tacktile.org
Dan is the director & lead teacher at the Mission Science Workshop and president of the Community Science Workshop Network, which reaches underprivileged young people in SF, Fresno and the Salinas Valley. Here is a recent interview with him on PBS: http://youtu.be/YZ_7wEQnGNk
We promise it'll be worth your time. We're interesting guys!
