Falling Into The Holiday Season
From the desk of A. Pruitt
It is hard to believe November is right around the corner. I hope all had a great fall break and now we are back, working hard to educate our babies. MSE is now in the second quarter of school and we are ramping up the instruction even more. During the second quarter, we have a lot of out of school days and it is imperative your child is at school each day and on time to maximize the instruction that is being given.
If you have any questions about our programs, initiatives, or anything else happening at Memphis School of Excellence High School, please feel free to contact me at apruitt@sememphis.org or visit our website sehmemphis.org.
As always, our goal is to encourage an environment where excellence is the only choice! We want, we need, and we value
everyone’s continuous engagement and support in our students’ education.

On November 22nd all MSE High School students will have the opportunity to watch the new film Harriet which is based on the thrilling and inspirational life of an iconic American freedom fighter, Harriet Tubman. The film tells the extraordinary tale of Harriet Tubman's escape from slavery and transformation into one of America's greatest heroes through her courage, ingenuity, and tenacity. In preparation for this film, students will complete a lesson centered around Harriet Tubman before they see the film.
Student Spotlight
Catera H.
Every month MSE would like to highlight a student that is involved in programs or activities that cultivate academic and social development by emphasizing math, science, and technology to set and meet higher education goals.
For November we are highlighting Catera H. for her involvement in the MEMSOAR Program. MEMSOAR’s overall program is designed to give students the basic foundation and understanding of possible career paths and education requirements needed to meet the required skills in their chosen aviation field. Through these sessions, students will be introduced to the airport industry infrastructure that helps support the aviation field. Some selected career paths for this program are Air Traffic Control, Mechanic Vocation, Fixed Base Operators, Aviation Pilots, and Airport Administration.
Take a moment this month to wish Catera good luck with the MEMSOAR Program and all her future endeavors!

A Look Back At October
Nissan ThinkFast Interactive Visits MSE!
On October 3rd all MSE students experienced the MSE Nissan ThinkFast Interactive Program. The program non-intrusively exposed the students to content that educated them on important information on hard-to-tackle topics such as the consequences of underage drinking, drug use, bullying, traffic safety, distracted driving while simultaneously entertaining them in a safe, relaxed and fun environment.
The program featured a multiple-choice clicker component, a dance competition, and a Jeopardy-style finale! Students had an amazing time while learning valuable driving information and statistics!
ESL College Fair
Our students attended ESL College Fair organized by the SCS ESL office at University of Memphis on October 24th. Students heard a panel of first generation college students about their experiences, met representatives from colleges & universities nationwide, and toured the University of Memphis campus!
The students below attended the fair:
Edward R., Thayli M., Alexander S., Kaitlin T., Daniela M., Yaritzy J., Jocelyn S. Jose M-C., Aneth F., Patricia S.
Feel free to ask them about their experience at the fair and what they learned!
College Trip to MTSU and TSU
On October 11th 49 MSE students had the opportunity to tour the campuses of TSU and MTSU in Nashville, Tennessee. Students were able to learn about the culture and academic structure of each college.
