MARCH 22, 2024
We had an exciting week at Smith! Thank you to everyone that came out for the Festival of Cultures and to all our parents that participated in our pep assembly! We also wrapped up some great sports seasons with final volleyball games against Boulan and our all-city wrestling meet at Athens. As Quarter 3 comes to a close, I want to wish everyone a fun and relaxing Spring Break. I hope that you are able to enjoy some down time with family and friends and travel safety if you are headed out on vacation!
Best Regards,
Ryan Brinks, Principal

SMITH TRACK & FIELD
Welcome to the Smith Knights Track and Field Teams!
We are excited for another season of ‘fun in the sun’ as we compete to be our best! Track is a very unique sport in that there are 16 different events (13 running and 3 field) allowing for many opportunities to participate and excel. Student/athletes are challenged each meet to set personal bests, not win their event/race ~ “Always Your Best!”
Please note that all 7th and 8th graders are welcome and that it is ‘ok’ to participate in another sport during the track season and still be a part of our teams. In the past we’ve had many student/athletes playing soccer, lax, baseball, etc. and still participate in track! Give us a call or email if you have questions regarding scheduling.
Please see the Smith Website (https://smith.troy.k12.mi.us/athletics/spring-sports/track ) as well as below for more information.”
Additional information for 6th grade Intramural Track will be coming soon!

MICHIGAN REGIONAL COMPETITION REGISTRATION
NATIONAL CIVICS BEE FINALIST
Congratulations to Jerin Amal Raj on being selected as a Local Finalist in the National Civics Bee®! Jerin wrote a compelling essay on reckless driving in social studies in December. His essay was among the top of all submissions and now qualifies to participate in the local event. We wish Jerin luck as he participates on April 13 at the Chaldean Community Foundation. Jerin has an opportunity to receive a cash prize up to $500. The top 3 winners will also proceed to the state event on July 17th in Lansing.
Best of Luck Jerin!
We are so proud of you! Mrs. Casko and your social studies teachers.
SMITH FESTIVAL OF CULTURES
THANK YOU to our wonderful Smith community for supporting the Festival of Cultures!
What a fantastic turn-out this year! We had over 70 families volunteer to host tables and many students that performed on stage as well! We were also able to raise of $2400 for Forgotten Harvest. Thank you to Ms. Hawks and our International Club for organizing the event, all of our students and families that hosted tables, and to all our staff that volunteered to help with setup and cleanup. We hope that everyone had a great evening!
SMITH PEP RALLY!
On Wednesday, March 20, we held our 3rd pep assembly honoring our girls' volleyball team, intramural sports, and clubs. We had a few surprises with our Smith Knightettes performing a dance to "Hey Mickey" and the crowd went wild as Miss Jain was lifted in a stunt. Lastly, we invited parents to play against their kids in 4 volleyball games. It was fun to see all of the energy and cheering as the game kept going back and forth. We are looking forward to our last pep assembly in May!
*A BIG "Thank You" to our fabulous parents for making the time to join us again for another surprise visit. This has been so much fun having you as our special guests.
*We also appreciate our amazing staff who have participated in the dance and volleyball games.
Thanks for making Smith such a great community,
- Mrs. Casko, Mr. Koneval and our hardworking Student Council Pep Assembly Committee
