News from this week
Dear Parents,
I hope everyone had a restful Labor Day weekend. It was a short week, but we got a lot done. The students are almost done with their first narrative writing story and they are looking great. We also started solving longer multiplication problems using the Area Model. I know this is not how us parents learned multiplication, but it really does help the student understand the "how" and "why" behind solving the problems. If you don't understand how to use the Area Model, there are several resources on my website under Content --> Math --> Multiplication that you can view to help.
Next Tuesday, September 12 at 7:15 am, I will begin offering Morning Math sessions to provide extra help for any of my students. I will have a session every Tuesday morning, unless I tell you otherwise. You do not need to sign up. Just drop your child off at the front doors at 7:15. You can drive right through the bus loop. The buses will not be there at that time. Please do NOT use the car rider lane on the side of the building. The front doors are open and there is someone at the front desk. Your child will say that they are there for Morning Math with Mrs. Stoffle. Please be sure not to drop off your child early as there is no one available to watch them. If I ever need to cancel on a Tuesday, I will send a message via Remind.
I will be setting up conference dates and times this weekend. Once I have it up and running, I will send out a Remind and an email with instructions on how to sign up. Conferences days are September 27 and 28, but I will also offer times before and after those dates.
Does your child enjoy writing? If so, please see the message about the Promise of Gwinnett Writing Contest in the Information section of the newsletter for an exciting opportunity!
As I told you at Curriculum Night, we are running a Class Economy in our classroom. One of the items the students can buy is a trip to the treasure chest. Since this a popular item, I am in need to donations for the treasure chest. Donations can include:
- candy
- small toys
- small dollar store items
- bubbles
- anything small and cheap that you think would be appropriate for a class treasure chest
If you have a question about any items you might want to donate, please send me an email.
Our reading program has officially started and reading logs are due every Monday (next week it is due on Tuesday due to the Labor Day holiday). Please make sure to sign your child's reading log every week or else it will not be counted. Also, if you decide to submit the reading log online, please send me an email by Monday morning (Tuesday this week). I do not get a list of online submissions, so I need to get the confirmation of submission from the parents.
Please make sure if you have to contact me about anything, to send me an email. For some reason, I don't always receive your Remind messages on my phone, so it always best to email to ensure I get your message the same day. mailto: sabine_stoffle@gwinnett.k12.ga.us
Have a great weekend!
Sabine Stoffle

Other Important Information
Promise of Gwinnett Writing Competition
We are excited to announce Believe:The Promise of Gwinnett Writing Contest for GCPS students, K-12. The theme of this writing competition is Believe: The Promise of Gwinnett. While students are not responding to a specific prompt, they should write about “promise.” For example, What do you believe in? Why is it important to believe in others? How does your beliefs system shape your future? How does your family encourage your dreams? Why should people strive to fulfill their promise? Why do you believe public education is important? What do you hope to do with your education?
All entries must be the student's original work. Entries must be typed or handwritten on 8.5 x 11 inch paper. Print on one side of the paper only. Do not bind, make a cover for, decorate, laminate, or otherwise alter the original paper on which the entry is written.
The entries may be completed as the student's genre of choice: short stories, poetry, essays, expository writing, personal narratives, or any other original student writing.
We will submit one winner for each grade level. All entries must turned in to me by September 29th. A committee will select one winner for each grade level to represent GOES at the county level.
Believe: The Promise of Gwinnett Writing Contest district winners for each grade level will also be submitted as the district winners for Young Georgia Authors.
