Rome Is So Last Century
As Roman secular authority declined, Church authority grew.Churches were responsible for care for the poor and sick, taking care of roads, buildings, etc. as well as resolving disputes. Bishops and parish priests had both spiritual and secular authority.
The Church Takes Care
Christianity was the main force in most towns across Europe. The Pope led the Church with authority of God. The Pope anointed the kings, showing who is more powerful. The Church took care of the people and gave them hope despite their rough lives.
