A Message From Mrs. Van Slyke
We have had a wonderful start to our school year and student behavior has been excellent! This does not happen by accident. Thank you for your positive influence in developing the character of your child.
As a school, we focus on acknowledging and reinforcing positive behavior. Compliments have a direct impact on success students and classroom communities.
Thank you for your continued support!

RIGS Assembly
We held our annual RIGS assembly on Friday, September 23rd. RIGS stands for Reading Is Great in Summer, and this assembly celebrates students who participated in our summer reading program this past summer. This has been a K-Beach tradition for 21 years! Thank you to the Soldotna Rotary and Marathon Oil for their generous support. They have helped sponsor our RIGS program for many years. All students who participated in RIGS received two books, and students who read over 900 minutes were also given a RIGS T-shirt!
This year we crowned a new RIGS Queen, Brianna Kjostad! Brianna read 13,680 minutes this past summer. Wow!
Students and teachers who participated in the program read a grand total of 242,822 minutes. Way to go, Caribou!
Caribou Migration
Please have your child wear school colors to school that day - red, white, or blue. Each student will be receiving a red sweatband to wear during their run!
Counseling Corner
Minute meetings are one way that we connect with each of our students individually. We meet for about a minute at three different times during the school year to monitor progress toward some of our school goals. Mr. Bultsma uses these meetings to meet with ALL students at K-Beach (minute meetings will not begin until winter for Kindergarten students).
The process is simple. Mr. Bultsma meets individually with students one at a time during their WIN (What I Need) time starting in October.
Questions for Primary Minute Meetings (K-2nd grades):
- How is your day going?
- How is your school year going?
- Rylee can keep calm when having big feelings like mad, sad, or worried. Can you keep calm when you are having a big feeling like mad, sad, or worried?
- Tanner and Skyler can name one adult at the school they can talk to about things that are bothering them. Name one adult at the school you can talk to about things that are bothering you.
Questions for Intermediate Minute Meetings (3rd-6th grades):
- How is your day going?
- How is your school year going?
- I think it's important that people can remain calm even when under stress. (Agree or Disagree)
- I can remain calm even when under stress. (Agree or Disagree)
- It is easy to talk to adults at this school about things that are bothering me. (Agree or Disagree)
Student names are NOT collected in the survey; however, Mr. Bultsma will take note of students who may need additional support in order to follow up with teachers, students, and families as needed.
