Morton Ranch Elementary
March 19, 2024
We have lots of NEW information to share with you!
Career Day was out of this world!
MRE counselors hosted a Career Day event on Friday, March 8th. We had community partners from all over town in attendance. Several of our own MRE parents volunteered to host a table! Our students in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade had a great time learning about a variety of careers.
If YOU have a job that you'd like to spotlight next school year, please reach out to counselors. We would love to include you in our e-mail list for next year's invitation!
Thank you to all of the volunteers that stopped by to support!
Sincerely,
Ashley Warren & Karen Perez
Counselors, MRE

State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness 2024
All students enrolled in Texas public schools and open-enrollment charter schools in grades 3–8 and specific high school courses are required by both federal and state law to participate in STAAR.
STAAR is an online assessment in mathematics, reading language arts (RLA), science, and social studies for students in grades 3–8 and high school and online tests in Spanish for students in grades 3–5.
MRE will follow the testing calendar below for STAAR 2024. This calendar is specific to MRE and may not mirror testing schedules for other KISD campuses.
For more information regarding STAAR, parent resources, practice tests, etc. Please visit the TEA Website.
Please contact our MRE Campus Testing Coordinator, Miranda Wilson for any questions regarding STAAR assessments.
Thank you for your understanding as we all work together to provide a safe and secure testing environment for our Mavs!
Did you know? All students at MRE have free lunch and breakfast for the 23-24 school year. Attending breakfast is not mandatory, as many of our students choose to eat at home. However, we have a large population of students who rely on a healthy breakfast. We encourage students to arrive at 7:50 so that they are able to eat before going to their classroom.
Our cafeteria is open for breakfast from 7:50-8:10.
**Campus doors open at 7:50**
Important Updates for Campus Visitors
A new set of double doors were installed during the break.
- These doors will remain locked during instructional hours.
- The doors will no longer open automatically.
- Visitors may enter the vistibule, press the button on the wall to the left, and present a valid ID to the camera.
- All visitors, campus staff and students should avoid allowing anyone to “tailgate” or follow them into a district facility.
- Please do not open the doors for visitors that are waiting in the vestibule.

Education and engagement in the fine arts are an essential part of the school curriculum and an important component in the educational program of every student in Katy ISD.
We are SO lucky to have not one, but TWO art teachers here at MRE. Ms.VanPelt and Ms.Allen are here to help students develop a vocabulary for art, express and communicate their own inner ideas and attitudes. Both teachers inspire students to create original artworks using a variety of media.
Please consider donating glue sticks, boxes of Crayola crayons, packs of tissue paper (any variety of colors). As you can imagine, these items go quickly when teaching over 900 students!
Interested in donating supplies? Items can be sent with students or dropped off at the front office.
Thank you for supporting the Fine Arts department at MRE!
Attention Lunch Visitors
Lunch visitors are asked to remain in the cafeteria during the scheduled times below. Please enter/exit the cafeteria at the time (and day of the week) that applies to your child's grade level.
We ask that visitors allow students to transition in and out of the cafeteria without disrupting the lines. This allows our students and teachers to follow their school schedule accordingly. Visitors are not able to join students during recess or conference with teachers during these transitions.
Thank you for your help with this!
ClassDojo is one way we communicate with our families here at MRE. Many important updates are posted in each student's classroom that are specific to their group. Information regarding projects, field trips, tests, and campus events are posted by teachers throughout each month.
Messages make it easy to communicate with teachers, families and staff anytime, anywhere—and are automatically translated into more than 35 languages!
Please reach out to your child's teacher if you are NOT connected to their ClassDojo.
