Remembrance Day Pray
Lord God, help us to remember the sacrifice of those caught up in war, and the generations of men, women and children who have died in the cause of liberty and peace.
Help us to remember those who still bear the physical and mental scars and disabilities of their service.
Help us to remember the widows, girlfriends, parents and orphans and all those who waited for the return of a loved one.
Help us to remember the mateship, agony, courage and compassion of war service.
Lord God, help us to remember.
Amen.
Amen.
Remembrance Day Service - 11th November, 2019 at 11o'clock
From the Principal
Dear Parents
I’m back after a bit of R&R, north of the 26th and extend a sincere vote of thanks to Natalie Sims for stepping into the Principal’s role in my absence. As usual, during my leave there always seems to be some sort of incident and I wasn’t surprised to see the photo of the tree that blew down in the storm that narrowly missed the bus!
Term Four is now well underway and we are busily preparing for all the activities that are planned. Swimming lessons begin next week for our students in Years One and Two, our ‘Open Days’ take place on 8th and 12th November, Grandparents and Special Friends Mass and morning tea and our school AGM on the 21st November, the Year 6 camp and much more.
Jessica and Josephine from Discovery Kids who provide a before and after school service for schools, will be visiting and preparing to set up for 2020. An information brochure has been sent home and is included with this newsletter detailing what the service provides. Once the school has been accredited and registered we can begin the process of signing up students with details of when and what days the service will be in operation. Next Monday 11th November is Remembrance Day and we will be having a special service facilitated by the Year Five class beginning at 11.00am on the school oval.
Whilst I was away we had the cake stall at the Wembley Downs Fair and instead of torrential rain we had a very warm day. Despite all that and a number of other cake stalls the ladies did a terrific job in raising $1500. Thanks to Tania Salmon, Gabby Brooks, Jo Quinn, Kath Hewett, Marnie McGreevy, Shannon Kelly and Charlotte Nutt and all who assisted on the day. Special thanks to all our bakers who made sure the cake stall had plenty of quality produce to sell. Thanks also to Dom Papa and the Electric Spirits who always do the school proud with their fantastic performances.
Busy times ahead folks so please consult the term planner and check for notices in email and through SEQTA, class newsletters and of course this high quality production!
I will be sending home an AGM agenda where we hope to make it more of a social evening with some informative presentations and conclude with some snacks and refreshments. Thanks to the three nominations we have received for Board positions and we look forward to an informative and entertaining evening on Thursday 21st November beginning at 7.00pm.
Have a good week everyone!
Regards,
Steve Versteegen
Principal

BAKE TO CREATE OUR MAKERSPACE
Willy Wonka would have been proud of the fabulous treats on offer at the Holy Spirit Cake Stall at the Wembley Downs Fair.
Awesome efforts by the organisers, Tania Salmon, Gabby Brooks, Shannon Kelly, Jo Quinn, Marnie McGreevy and Kath Hewett. To the all the helpers along the way and our fabulous bakers - a big thank you also. A special mention to Charlotte Nutt for her help on the stall.
It was also wonderful to see Holy Spirit students performing on the stage. Thanks to Dom Papa for all his work to prepare the groups for their sets.
The fundraising from this event is earmarked to set up a Makerspace at the school. What is a Makerspace? A Makerspace is a place where students come together to use, and learn to use materials as well as develop creative projects. Makerspaces promote learning through play. The important idea is that it is a place that can be used for a range of activities with changing and flexible educational goals and creative purposes.
Work has commenced on designing our Makerspace; so watch this (maker) space!!!
