Fountain Central Jr/Sr High School
Mustang Round-Up, August 2020
Welcome Back Mustangs!
Dear FC families,
On behalf of the faculty and staff at Fountain Central Jr/Sr High School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2020-21 school year! Personally, I am grateful and elated to continue serving as your principal. Over the past six years, I have had the opportunity to get to know most of you and your students, and I look forward to continuing that partnership and building a strong relationship with all new students and families at Fountain Central. As we plan for a back-to-school like no other we have ever experienced in the past, our focus remains the same, the safety and well-being of our students.
Spring of 2020 has challenged staff and students to find a new normal for learning, connected us in new ways, and required our teachers to champion from afar. What I have most learned through this process is how much I appreciate the expertise our teachers bring to FCHS, the ways in which our students continue to work hard to grow and overall, and appreciation for the little things in life - giving a high five, a hug or being able to laugh out loud with many people around. What I MOST appreciate about FCHS is that even under circumstances we have never experienced before we are still a learning and caring community.
Normal is such a simple word and it is our goal at FCHS to not only find our new normal, but to use this time as a learning experience that will forever impact the learning environment of FCHS. Our fall may not be “normal,” but our learning will continue. We can’t wait to move on to the next phase of learning under Covid-19 and we know, all returning and new students to FCHS will be welcomed with open arms (from 3-6 feet away) to our Mustang community!
Our first student day is August 12th. As you begin your back-to-school shopping, I would like to remind you of the student dress code expectations highlighted on page 27 of the FCHS 2019-20 Student Handbook. The district believes that students should dress in a way that is appropriate for the learning environment. School safety is a top priority at Fountain Central Junior/Senior High School. To ensure safety and an educational environment free from distraction, guidelines were established in regards to the school’s dress code. Please review the dress code expectations at the link above. In addition, students will be required to wear face coverings throughout the day when social distancing is not possible.
We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our students can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our students need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. If you have any questions about student expectations for success at FC, please feel free to contact me. The staff and I feel privileged to be a part of the FC school community. We thank you for your support and I look forward to seeing you soon!
Yours in education,
Mrs. Ashley Hammond, Principal

Daily Home Screening for Students
It is essential for the school community to work together to prevent the introduction and spread of COVID-19 in the school environment and in the community while still providing a quality education program.
The current CDC Guidelines recommend screening all students and employees for COVID-19 symptoms and history of exposure. Southeast Fountain is requesting staff and students and/or parents/guardians to utilize self-screening and/or medical inquiries.
Please review the "Daily Home Screening for Students" checklist below provided by the CDC regarding symptoms of COVID-19. Any students or staff members displaying symptoms SHOULD NOT come to school. Daily home screening is one of the most important preventative measures we can take as a school community.

Wabash River Career and Technical Education Programs (Vocational)
Due to 41 being closed, there have been adjustments made to the transportation travel time. If you are planning to ride the vocational bus from FC to your vocational program site, you must ensure you are at school and waiting for the bus by the main office prior to the time the bus is set to leave daily. Our FC vocational bus takes you you to the Shawnee drop off location and you would get on the bus for the school in which your program is located. The same would happen for your return to FC.
Students who are planning to drive on their own to and from vocational classes MUST have a completed driving form turned into the main office. We will be handing those out at the meeting on Wednesday.
