Assistant Principal's Message
We are extremely excited to have our Meridian High School students back on campus this week! By any measure it has been a strange 10 and a half months since we released students early on March 13, 2020. I believe many of us are more than ready to return to some sense of “normal”.
Last February I (Andy) was watching our girls’ basketball team play at King’s Garden School in Seattle during the district playoffs. I sent a text to several people before the game boldly predicting a 3-point win for our girls. We won by 2. That is the last prediction I made and it was a darn good one.
While we certainly can’t continue to accurately predict the future, have done our best and provided a lot of helpful information about hybrid school here. If you still have pressing questions, please email Mr. Donahue or Mr. Forbes and we will do our best to answer them.
There are a lot of moving parts that need to work together for a school to function successfully. Bus drivers that greet students and transport them to school safely. Custodians and maintenance staff who keep the buildings clean and functioning effectively. Nurses whose knowledge about the COVID-19 virus and how we keep students safe is invaluable right now. Our counselors remind us to be sensitive to the social-emotional needs of students as they return to school after almost a year away. Food service makes sure that our students have nutrition. The office staff who work so effectively with our families. And of course, our teachers and para educators with whom your students spend the majority of their time.
Every adult at Meridian High School wants the very best for your student. We all do our part to ensure that your student is successful. We believe it is important that you know that. Each of the adults here have chosen to work in this school and take pride in providing an excellent educational experience for your student.
I (Andy) am now making my next bold prediction: your student will come home from Meridian High School the first day with some excitement. Or at least a little extra bounce in their step (no small feat considering we start at 8am). Feel free to send me an email and let me know how good this prediction turns out to be.
Go Trojans!

Hybrid Learning Begins This Week!

Grading Information
Thursday, January 28th marked the end of first semester. Teachers spent Friday both grading and preparing for the start of the second semester as we welcoming students on campus. Students who didn't earn credit in a course because of a failing grade will not see an "F" on their report card. Instead they will see an "I" for Incomplete.
An Incomplete grade mark means that a student has not earned credit for the class and will be able to still earn credit for the class provided they complete the work assigned by the teacher. The work assigned would be evidence that the student learned a satisfactory amount of material to earn credit for the class.
Students will get a plan for each class they didn't earn credit in later this month. The plan to earn credit will vary based on the work that had been completed in the class and the content area of the class. We also anticipate having additional support available to those students as well to help them first do well in their current classes and begin to complete the work from the first semester.
If you have additional questions about the Incomplete process, please contact me by phone or email.
