Information for Parents
Damages and Graffiti in Restrooms: In recent weeks we have noticed an increase in graffiti and damage in the restrooms and we have frequently had to close restrooms due to damages and need for repairs. We are working to combat this problem and request your support as well. Please do not let your student bring paint pens or permanent markers to school. Should they need these specific supplies for academic purposes, they will be provided to them for use in their classes. We appreciate your partnership on this matter.
PSO Fundraiser
The SMS PSO is holding “The Greatest School Fundraiser Ever!” In lieu of sending students home with the task of selling something door to door, collecting money or delivering goods, please consider helping support the SMS PSO with your donation and help us to continue to support our students and staff. Please click here for more information.
SMS Talent Show: The SMS Leadership will be hosting the SMS Talent Show on Friday, June 3rd. Auditions will be held May 3rd, 4th, & 5th starting at 3:30 p.m. in the SMS Performing Arts Center. Performances must be 3-4 minutes or less. Group acts may not include more than 10 people. Talent Show Audition Sign-Up Acts must be school appropriate and may not be changed after auditions.
SBAC Testing is coming. SBAC Testing will take place in May. As in the past, parents will have the opportunity to opt their student(s) out of Math and Language Arts testing by returning the completed Opt-Out Form to Allison Kopp prior to the start of testing. Eighth grade parents who would like to opt their student out of Science testing must send or email a letter requesting their student not test for religious reasons.
Students will be using Chromebooks for SBAC Testing. Please remind your student(s) to come to school with a charged Chromebook each day.
- May 2-6: Math
- May 9-13: 8th Grade Science
- May 16-27 ELA Testing - A portion of the testing during the week includes using headphones or earbuds. Your student may bring his or her own wired headphones for this section of the test. Wireless headphones and earbuds are not allowed.
For OHSU Testing Program supplies please email jgodfrey@sherwood.k12.or.us
Prior Week's Information
Lunch Deliveries: If your child forgets his/her lunch for the day, they may order a lunch from the cafeteria. Lunches are free to all students for the 2021-22 school year. You may also drop-off a lunch for your student. Please be sure to mark the lunch with his or her name. Please DO NOT have food delivered from a meal delivery service such as Door Dash, etc. We are receiving an increasing number of these orders and our office staff cannot get the orders delivered since this is a particularly busy time in the office.
Target Time: We are excited to announce that students will soon have a new opportunity to study before and after school at SMS, Target Time. Target Time is a quiet place for students to work on class assignments and learning. Students make a commitment to stay after school or arrive before school to work on their assignments in a quiet environment facilitated by a teacher. Target Time will take place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and Thursday afternoons. The Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon Target Time will begin the week of April 18th, and the Thursday morning Target Time will begin the following week. Please see the information sheet and permission slip for additional details. Space in Target Time is limited and is available on a first to sign-up basis.
Outdoor School: 6th grade students will have the opportunity to attend NWRESD’s Outdoor Science School on May 9 and May 10. This year, the experience will consist of two field trips during the school day, one to Trickle Creek Campground and one to either Rood Bridge Park or Champoeg State Park. More information on this, including permission slips, will be provided to students in 6th grade Flight Time classes soon. If you have a 6th grade student, please keep an eye out for Outdoor School specific emails in your inbox in the coming weeks.
