2021-2022 School Year: Volume 9 - Week of October 26, 2021
Be the Best YOU at Grandview!!!
From the Principal's Desk....It is a Spooktacular Week this week!!
Happy Halloween week! This is a week filled with lots of sugar, excitement and fun for the students. We hope you have a Spooktacular week, but please remember that learning still needs to be a priority. We notice that when structure and routines are altered, behaviors are affected. Still make sure that your children are getting enough sleep and enough structure so that learning can be at a maximum!
If you have not signed up for conferences, please do so. It is the expectation for the teacher to meet with each student in the fall. A lot of important information will be shared with all of you and it is essential that the parent, student, and teacher dynamic is rich with communication and information. So please ensure that you are able to set a conference. Conferences can be held face-to-face or virtually....whatever is most convenient for the family.
As I look to November, it is my month to express things I am thankful for. Please be sure to take time to reflect on all that we are thankful for. I will be sharing my thankfulness with the students on the announcements, as well as on social media. We all have a lot to be thankful for, so lets spread the word!!
Your Proud Principal,
Mrs. Melissa Carruth, Ed.S

Please note that children are not permitted to wear scary costumes or masks, bring sharp edged props such as sticks, swords, knives, weapons, have bare midriffs, feature blood and gore, etc. We are a K-5 building, which means that we want the costumes to be appropriate for all grade levels.
We hope you get to join us on Friday!!
Fall Festival is THIS FRIDAY!!!
Friday, October 29th is our annual Fall Festival!! The event runs from 6:00-8:00. FOG has worked so hard to make this event to be special for the Grandview families. Please note that this event is ONLY for Grandview students. Middle school and high school students cannot attend. This is an event just for elementary students. If your middle schooler or high school want to attend, they can volunteer their time. If that is the case, please contact the GV office to get you in touch with FOG to sign them u.
On October 29th, is Fall Festival. The event is entirely outside. So if it rains, there is no rain date. A Grandview tradition that I love to be a part of. There will be cider and doughnuts, games, Spooky walks, pumpkin picking, and trunk or treating. In order for this event to go off without a hitch, you need to purchase tickets ahead of time. The flyers have been sent home. I have included one below as well. Please remember that you need to purchase wristbands before the event!! They are not selling wristbands before the event.
Trunk or Treat....we would love more cars!!!

Halloween candy is a great tool to use for practicing math skills at home! Try these activities before all of the candy disappears!
Weigh your bucket of candy.
Count candy pieces.
Compare the weight of an apple (or other healthy food item) to your candy pile.
Sort candy by type.
Graph candy by type.

Morning Drop Off
A few reminders
In the Back of the school:
- Please form 3 lines to help with the flow of traffic and then alternate 1, 2, and 3.
- Please make sure your child exits your car on the side closest to the building. They should not walk around your car. This is for their safety.
- Also remember, you may not park in the back of the building and walk your children in. Let’s all keep our kids safe!
- If you are a walker, the please have your child walk in through the back door.
In the Front of the school:
- This is only to be used for busses
- Starting next week, we will be splitting up upper and lower elementary dismissal locations
- There is NO Parent Walk-up as visitors are NOT allowed in the building while we are under COVID restrictions
If your child is late:
- The doors in the back of the building will close at 8:35. If you arrive to school after that, you will have to report to the front of the building, be buzzed in and sign your child in.
- Tardies are tracked and could lead to truancy should excessive tardies become a trend.
Afternoon Drop Off
Our wonderful staff is working hard to help your children get into their cars safely. Please be patient as we all perfect routines. You can play a part by forming 3 lines in the back and hanging your sign with your children's name on it from last year. If you are new this year or to this process, we will be giving you a new sign the first week of school. Safety always wins!
There is NO PARENT WALK-UP.
Walkers will be released to their adult through the back.
Please note: Starting next week, we will have lower el picking up in the front of the school. Look for that information coming to you next week.
Late Drop off and Early Pick Up
Tardy is marked starting at 8:40.
Children will not be allowed an early dismissal from the office after 3:15 pm so we can ensure a calm and safe end to the day for all students. Please plan accordingly.
