WIZARD WEEKLY
Week of January 24-27
WORD FROM THE EMERALD CITY
~ This month is board appreciation month! Our adopted board member is Steve Newcom. I will be contacting him to schedule a visit. If you have students who would like to make him cards, signs, video messages, etc., please feel free. I will set up a date and let you know, so that if you would like him to come visit your room, we can set that up. If you have any ideas, send them my way...I'm sure they get tired of doing the same thing each year, so I'm trying to be creative.
~ Teacher of the year nomination forms will be in your boxes today. Please take the time to nominate someone you feel demonstrates the qualities of teacher of the year. The list of eligible nominees is on the back. You must have taught in the district for 3 full years to be eligible. Thanks so much for nominating! We have fabulous teachers at Elkins, and you ALL deserve recognition!!
~I have the order forms for the long sleeve shirts, and I will be sending those out today. There are multiple color options, but not all sizes are available in all colors. Those are marked out, so you can see which sizes are available. I went ahead and had her add those colors, in case there were sizes that some people would want in a color that was available. They are $18, and it's a pretty quick turn around from the time we place the order, so I'm going to try and get her the final order by the start of next week.
~ I'm off campus tomorrow for a personal day. I'm taking the day to be mom tomorrow and going with Jansyn on her first field trip. I'm off campus Wed. morning at STAAR training and Thursday all day at training. So... you won't see me much this week, but always feel free to email, text or call whenever!
Campus News
~Our first graders did a great job last week at their performance. Shout out to Vicki for her hard work and all of the teachers who helped get them prepared! They were so cute and did amazing!!
~ Debbie Diffie and Theresa Parisi will be here on Friday at 9:15 for science and social studies curriculum walks. Please make sure learning targets are up to date and you have visible evidence in your rooms from science and social studies lessons. Even if you or your students are not in class during the visit, we could come in and just view artifacts in the classroom. Artifacts could be anchor charts, student work posted in the hallways, journals, etc. They are checking to see where in the scope and sequence we are and trying to ensure curricular alignment among the district. They understand if your a week or so behind, so no need to stress. They just want to see the evidence that the material is being taught at high levels and consistent with the TEK and district curriculum
~Clubs are this Friday. Make sure all of your students are signed up and know where they are supposed to go on Friday. We will be following Clubs schedule!
~Please look over the email that Bobby sent about benchmark testing that is coming up next week. There will be schedule changes that involve a few grade levels. On days when you change specials times, and it's your grade level's PLC day, we will not have the extended block. If your specials times are not changing, your schedule will remain the same.
~ The PRIDE Posse party has been scheduled for Friday, February 3rd during specials. I emailed the invitation last week that you can send home in your students' report cards if they acquired enough points to attend PRIDE Posse. We will have 2 bounce houses and popcorn for the students. If it's nice weather, we will participate outside. If the weather is really cold or rainy, we will have it in the gym.
~ Elk of the Month will be judged on forgiveness, loyalty, optimism, and patriotism. I forgot AGAIN to announce them, but I'm making myself a note to do that!! I apologize for that!
~ On February 17th, we will be scheduling Donuts with Dads to take place that morning. This will be similar to how it was on Granola with Grandparents. More information will be coming home soon, and I will send an invitation in the next week or so.
Be Vocabulous!
Continue to discuss the vocabulary with your students! It's making a big difference!
Here is the copy of the s'more newsletter about the vocabulary program. It has all the words listed for the year, so you can plan ahead! It has each word listed and the grade level responsible. The kids really enjoyed this last year, and I think this was something I had more comments from parents about than anything! They would comment about their students knowing the meanings of words that they didn't even know. The vocabulary parade was a big hit too. Even the older kids got into it and had fun being creative and participating.
Please turn in the "Word Up" Levels sheets when you have students who display the appropriate use of the words. Obviously, the younger they are, the more "adaptation" needs to occur in order to receive the levels, but the students who received the tags last year, LOVED it!! I will put the "Word Up Level" sheet on canvas!
As a reminder, the way the "Word Up Levels" work, goes like this...
All students will start as rookies and all students will have a chance to move up as many levels as they would like. Spirit Tags (that PTA is selling) will be used for levels 2 thru 5 and when a student reaches level 2 thru 5 they will receive a spirit tag for that level from the principal.
Teachers will nominate students to move up through the levels.
