Bourne Celebrates Youth Art Month, Music in Our Schools Month and Youth Theater Month

Student Acheivements
Congratulates to Winter Sports Student-Athletes on Tournament and Personal Success
- The Boys Basketball team was seeded second in Division 4. The team defeated Roxbury Charter Prep. Monomoy, David Prouty, and Burke to advance to the State Finals. They faced top-seed Wareham on Sunday, March 17 and lost a hard-fought game 86-71.
- The Girls Basketball team was seeded seventh in Division 4. They defeated Southwick Regional in the Round of 32, Northbridge 44-36 in round of 16, but were defeated by Tyngsborough.
- The Sandwich-Bourne Girls Ice Hockey Division 2 Co-Op defeated Stoneham 5-1, then fell to Nauset 4-0 in the Round of 16.
- The Division 4 Boys Hockey team defeated Abington 4-2 in the first round but were defeated by Nantucket 3-2 in an away game on the island.

New Bourne High School DECA Chapter Celebrates Successful State Conference, First International Competition Qualifiers
The Bourne High School DECA Chapter is celebrating its successful first State Career Development Conference (SCDC) where seven student members competed among thousands of their peers.
Dhyan Patel scored in the top three on the Marketing Cluster Written Exam. Peter Scannell and JT Luce represented BHS in the Financial Consulting event, while Alex Stowe and Muskan Patel promoted the Big Nick’s Ride event and fundraiser in the Integrated Marketing Campaign category.
Sofia Halunen and Lily Russell, along with their teammates from Bedford High School, earned gold in DECA’s Quiz Bowl and qualified for the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Anaheim, California in April.
In addition to the Quiz Bowl qualifier spots earned by Halunen and Russell, Bourne High School can send four more students to ICDC through Leadership & Chapter Campaigns.
Bourne Middle School Student Audrianna Morse Wins Artsonia Artist of the Week Award
Eighth-grader Audrianna Morse was recently awarded Artsonia’s Artist of the Week award.
Morse won the award the week of Feb.12, after submitting her mixed media artwork to the Artsonia voting competition. Morse won Artist of the Week for grades six to eight, earning 516 votes.
Artsonia is the world’s largest collection of student art, published by teachers and students from around the world. Parents and family can view the art online, leave comments and order keepsakes featuring the artwork. CLICK HERE FOR MORE
Bourne High School Advances to Semifinals in Massachusetts Education Theater Guild Competition
Bourne High School Drama Club advanced to the semifinal round of the Massachusetts Education Theater Guild (METG) Competition. On March 2, the Bourne Drama Club performed an abridged version of Macbeth at Bourne High School and performed in the semifinal at the Theater at Maria Weston Chapman in Weymouth on March 9.
The Bourne High School drama club received five awards for their production of Macbeth during the preliminary round. Acting awards were granted to Logan Broadway (senior) as the titular role of Macbeth and to the three witches, Madison Moore (senior), Ella Keefe (senior) and Abigail Billard (freshman) as a trio. Technical and design awards went to Scott LaFleur (senior) for scenic design and to Abigail Smith (junior) and Cooper White (senior) for lighting design. Kendra Mahoney (senior) also received the “David Dooley Unsung Hero Award” for her work in organizing the competition.
Bourne Musicians Perform at the MMEA All State Conference
BHS exceptional singers advanced through two levels of auditions to perfrom with the MMEA All-State Chorsus at Symphony Hall. Molly Lodge, Aspen Langley, and Jay Gary repersneted Bourne and can be seen in the video below.

STEAMposium saw record numbers of attendees
Many staff contributed to the success of an awesome family event. Special thanks to Lisa Dix, Toni Perry, and Sherrie Correia for planning and executing a circus-themed night of learning and fun. The more than 400 participants and attendees from across BPS were treated to a community-centered spectacle with everything from cotton candy, popcorn, and face painting to student-made midway games, student and teacher-led demonstrations, and hands-on activities.

STEAM Carnival rides
Elementary Schools Kicked off Read Across America Week with author Michelle Cusolito
On Monday, March 4, special guest and author Michelle Cusolito will visit Bournedale Elementary School and Bourne Intermediate School to read to students K-5 for Read Across America Week. She will present both of her books, “Flying Deep” and “Diving Deep.”
“Diving Deep” and “Flying Deep” are both STEM picture books that examine snorkeling, freediving, scuba, and submarines, and discuss technologies scientists use to explore the ocean.
During Read Across America Week, both elementary schools will participate in Spirit Week reading activities for each day. Students will join in a school-wide Drop Everything and Read (DEAR), draw a picture of their favorite book or character, write a kind note for someone to read and dress up as their favorite book character.
Read Across America is coordinated by Bourne Public Schools’ Literacy Team. The team has created a week of activities around literacy to celebrate the National Read Across America Program.

Bournedale Elementary School Second-Graders Host Successful Career Fair
On Friday, March 29, more than 100 Bourne Public Schools students, families, community members, BPS administration, School Committee members and local municipal representatives attended the Bournedale Elementary School Career Fair.
A total of 115 second-grade students partnered with Bourne High School student interns to choose a career field to learn more about and represent at the fair. Students and their BHS interns hosted 44 career tables. Career areas that students chose included: public safety, education, communication, business, life science, design, philanthropy, athletic training, real estate, healthcare and sports marketing/management. - Congratulations to BIS's Kristina Ierardi for being named MassCUE's Featured Educator for May 2024! Kristina will be showcased for the month on MAssCue's website and social media. Read Kristina's nomination from Lori Cooney - a colleague and fellow MassCUE presenter from UMass Boston at the Institute for Community Inclusion.
