Farmer's Market
On Tuesday, October 1st, our class will visit the Annual Farmers' Market which will be set up outside the Elementary Building. Students are welcome to bring in a few dollars to buy local produce.
Open House
Thursday, October 10th will be our Annual Fall Open House. Families of 3rd and 4th graders are invited to come tour the school from 5:30-6:30. There will be no parent conference and/or party sign-ups that evening. The conference sign-ups will come embedded in next Friday's Newsletter as a link to SignupGenius. Party sign-ups will come the same way as we approach each holiday.
Safety Week
I would like to give you all a heads up that October 7th through the 11th is our drill week. During that week we'll be practicing the lockdown, lockout, shelter in place, and evacuation drills. On Friday, October 11th, which is a half-day, we'll be walking to the First Congregational Church on Main Street. Once our complex has totally evacuated, we'll walk back to school.
Math
Mrs. Close's Class ~ It's been quite a week! The kids have been working on addition, subtraction, estimating, and geometry! In addition, I threw them a curve ball with a writing prompt! That will come home in next week's Friday Folder. I do try to have them write about math on a weekly basis. During the upcoming week the kids will practice finding perimeters of squares and rectangles and take their first Everyday Math (EM) unit assessment. Be on the lookout next week for those assessments as they'll need to be signed and returned. More geometry and multiplication are part of unit 2!
Mr. Hart's Class ~ We continue to work through our module on place value. We have spent the past week working on writing numbers in standard, expanded, and word form. The kids have also been working on writing numbers 1,000, 10,000, and 100,000 more and less than a number. We continue to work on our addition and subtraction of large numbers. One thing that the kids can work on is mastering their addition and subtraction facts. If you have not yet signed your child up for Xtra math or misplaced the flyer I sent home please let me know and I'll send home another copy.
Fun Friday
Yesterday was our first Fun Friday and it was a blast! Earlier in the week the kids completed a google form and selected three activities that they considered fun. Then we took all 65 kids from our team and assigned them one of their three choices. Mrs. McClain, Mrs. Uebbing, and Mrs. McCarthy joined in so we could create small groups. Check out the pictures below!
Science
Our focus of the week was on the seed soak. The kids were able to actually see all three parts of the seed; seed coat, cotyledon, and the embryo! Next week, on to hydroponics!
