Cradles to Crayons
Providing kids with the important basics of life for free
Mission
"Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive - at home, at school and at play. We supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities that have with communities that need."
Why Is This Organization Needed?
Philadelphia is in great need of an organization like us. Philadelphia has one of the nation's largest poverty rates, with about a quarter of the population living in poverty. And of that quarter, more than 130,000 children live in poverty.
Statistics
In 2011, we:
- Provided 13,220 KidPacks (a week's supply of everyday essentials, including clothing, shoes, infant safety equipment, toys and books, that costs $25)
- Supplied 19,000 backpacks
- Distributed 248,000 diapers in under 10 hours
- Organized 735 community drives
- Hosted 11,785 volunteers
What We Do To Help
We help the kids who live in poverty or are homeless. We give them new shoes, new coats, clothing, backpacks, books, and school supplies so they are prepared to work. If kids don't have the things they need, their well-being suffers, and their schoolwork suffers. They don't feel valued.
How We Execute Our Vision
In order to get impoverished children the basics they need, we hold donations and corporate drives to collect the new and gently-used children's items. Volunteers then process and package the donations. Finally, the donated items are distributed to impoverished children throughout the state.
