Happy New Year!
Please plan to revisit Habit #2- Begin with the End in Mind both personally and with your classes. Review your expectations, students’ end of the year goals, and create a 2019 Class Mission Statement! This is truly an investment that will make a return this month and in the upcoming months of February, March, April, and May!
Our mission is to empower and inspire a community of lifelong learners and leaders.
District Goals:
1. We will practice fiscal responsibility.
2. We will improve student achievement.
3. We will increase our transparency throughout our communities.
Our Goals:
1. By the end of the 2018-2019 school year, 85% or more of our second, third, and fourth-grade students will be considered on track and low risk of not passing ELA AIR as measured by MAP benchmark reading scores.
2. By the end of the 2018-19 school year, 85% or more of our second, third and fourth-grade students will be considered on track and low risk of not passing Math AIR as measured by MAP benchmark math scores.
3. By the end of the 2018-2019 school year, 100% of third-grade students will meet the requirements of the Third Grade Reading Guarantee as measured by MAP or AIR assessments.
4. During the 2018-2019 school year, the percentage of chronic absenteeism will decrease by 2% as compared to the chronic absenteeism of the previous school year.
5. During the 2018-19 school year, out of school suspensions for non-serious minor offenses will decrease by 25% when compared to the previous school year.
The Habit of Mutual Benefit
"You don't have to blow out the other person's light to let our own shine." ~Bernard M. Baruch
The Maturity Continuum shows the relationships among the 7 Habits. It illustrates the stages of progression- how to become highly effective through moving from dependence to interdependence.
Habits 1-3 illustrate the private victory experience where we learn self-mastery and self-discipline.
Habits 4-6 illustrate the public victory experience where we build deep, lasting, highly effective relationships with other people.
Habit 4-Think Win-Win
Principle: long-term relationships require mutual respect and mutual benefit
Paradigm: Effective- There is plenty out there for everyone, and more to spare vs. Ineffective- There is only so much, and the more you get, the less there is for me
Concepts:
Abundance Mindset- Find it easy to share recognition and credit. Be happy for the successes of others, especially those closest to you.
Balance courage and consideration- Highly effective people balance courage-willingness and ability to speak their thoughts and feelings) and consideration-willingness and ability to seek and listen to others' thoughts and feelings with respect.
Win-Win Agreements- work great when you want to clarify expectations, increase empowerment, delegate responsibilities, align conflicting priorities.
Elements of an effective Win-Win Agreement include:
• Desired Result- What's the end in mind? What are the outcomes I want?
• Guidelines- What rules do I follow? What are the guidelines for accomplishing the results?
• Resources- What resources do I have to work with?
• Accountability- How will I measure how well it's going?
• Consequence - What are the rewards of achieving the outcome? What are the
consequences of not achieving the outcome?
