Principal's Letter
Greetings Lake Windward Elementary Families,
What a great day! Our students and teachers were ready to hit the ground running today! Teachers spent a lot of time today reviewing procedures and ensuring students know and understand expectations. In addition, they spent time getting to know the students and allowing time for students to get to know each other as well.
This week I will spend a lot of time visiting classrooms. During my classroom visits I will be reading the book The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson. This book is a sweet story about how we all feel a little bit "on the outside" sometimes until we begin to make connections with others and then eventually feel comfortable just being ourselves. This story allows us to embrace our differences and feel proud of who we are. While I am in classrooms, I will make a point to meet all of the students who are new to LWE this year. I look forward to seeing returning students and new students alike!
Please keep in mind that parents will need to start the usual routine of students walking themselves to class tomorrow. LWE staff will be stationed throughout the building to help direct students and show them to their classrooms. We have found that the sooner we allow students to get into this routine, the easier it is on them. In addition, we don't have lunch visitors during the first two weeks of the school year. This allows teachers time to model appropriate lunch behavior and gives students time to get to know their classmates.
Our enrollment numbers continue to be high in grades 2, 3 & 4. The district could determine that we need to open additional classrooms once the 10 Day Count process is complete. Please be prepared for the possibility of changes if you have a child in one of these grade levels.
Thanks to all of you who have already supported our PTO! We appreciate your partnership with our school through volunteerism as well as financially. It takes all of us working together to make this school the best place for students to learn and grow!
It's going to be a GREAT school year!!
Warm regards,
Julie Morris
