Plympton Family Update
March 22, 2024
From the Admin Team
Dear Plympton Families,
This week our 3rd through 5th graders were treated to a performance by Women in World Jazz - a group dedicated celebrating women artists around the world. The group features world music composed by women artists past and present. From USA Blues and Jazz styles, the group ventures to Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Japan, Cape Verde and the Middle East to celebrate the diversity and power of creativity.
On a more serious note, recently we have seen an increase in physicality with the students. This week we learned about a new game called "Drop" with the main objective being to bring a person to the ground. Needless to say, this game is not approved. This week we also put a stop to "the kiss cam" where students push each other into one another in hopes that two will be magically pushed into a kiss. Students should not be playing any game that involves pushing, grabbing, or touching of any kind. Please help us by reminding your student(s) to keep their hands to themselves and to respect everyone’s personal space.
We have also become aware of several “group chats'' occurring through text messaging and various social media apps, mostly with 4th and 5th graders. Personal electronics are not allowed in school so most of these “chats” are happening outside of school hours. However, sometimes people say things via messaging apps that they wouldn’t say face to face and hurt feelings are brought into the classroom. We are asking for your assistance in deleting the group chats from your student’s devices.
At school we are emphasizing cyber safety including the safe and appropriate use of electronic communication technologies when posting to social media, sending email or texts, and browsing the Internet. We are also working on enhancing students’ skills for engaging in healthy relationships and respectful communications.
Upcoming events:
We are excited about our Family Literacy Night scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, 2024 from 6:00 - 7:30. Staff are looking forward to sharing information and activities about fluency, phonics, read alouds, and more!
On April 8, 2024, we will be able to view (with special eclipse glasses only!) a 93% solar eclipse in Waltham! The eclipse will last from 2:15 pm to 4:40 pm. All students, K-5, will participate in the viewing of the eclipse outside before the end of the school day.* The Sun will be blocked the most around 3:30 pm, so the best viewing time is actually after school. For that reason, students will take their eclipse glasses home on April 8th. *Please contact your student’s teacher if you wish to opt-out of the viewing. We'll continue to send information home about this exciting event!
We hope you have a fantastic weekend!
Sincerely,
Adrienne Norris and Amanda Brennan

Attention all seasonal allergy friends! The warm weather has brought the pollen season early this year. Start your antihistamines NOW and remember to take it every day. Think about adding a nasal spray for those worsening symptoms.
Remember the Health Office does not allow cough drops or any other Over the Counter medicines, other than Tylenol, be given in school.
Be well,
Ms. Duquette, RN 781-314-5763
