Connecting Divisions with StuDev Advisors
Student Development is grateful to be undergoing a time of substantial change and growth. Along with all of this change, comes the ability to do some new things we’re excited about. One of these new initiatives is to assign StuDev advisors to be “highly-connected” to the various divisions on campus for the purpose of fostering greater communication and understanding between office and division.
Advisor Duties:
- attend regular division meetings.
- be included on division email alias.
- Have a yearly, or semester-ly, one on one with the chair.
- be the information pipeline from the division to StuDev and vice versa.
- be the division’s go-to with advising questions.
- build steel-fortified, concrete bridges of trust and understanding between divisions and StuDev advising/serving processes.
Advisor Division Assignments:
Business – Tina Lyles
Nursing – Diane Russo
Allied Health at the CSC—Ami Andrade
Allied Health on the Main Campus – Celina Vasquez
Human Services and Education—Lizette LaStrape
Math/Science—Brandon Sliva
Physical Education – Laura Crapps

training for New Registration Software "Student Planning"
Beginning in the upcoming Spring ’16 registration period, MCC will be using a new software for student registration called “Student Planning”. We are very excited about this user-friendly and powerful upgrade to our students’ registration experience.
In order for MCC’s Advising Community to be ready to use the new software and understand the impact it makes on our advising process in general, Student Development will be offering 9 different training options in the coming weeks.
These sessions will not be a full-fledged advisor training like the ones typically offered in the spring. It will be a succinct, 1 hour or less, overview of the software and how to use it in the advising process.
Student Planning will be asking us as advisors to make significant adjustments to the way in which we help students select their courses. Therefore, we feel that it will be essential for everyone who serves students in this capacity to be trained in order to not disrupt the registration process.
All trainings are already listed in Webadvisor as ZPOD 2042 and are available at the following times:
October (in LTC 228 unless noted)
- M 19@10:00
- T 20@3:00

It was an exciting day to have Chick-fil-A come to the campus for a Hiring Event. We look forward to working with Chick-fil-A on future events.
WOW!! College and Career Night was a huge success! We had so many students interested in taking the assessment, they were lined up all night. It was so exciting to be able to help students, who did not really know what they wanted to do after high school, take the assessment. We printed the information out for them and then showed them where the various workforce tables were. It was a great evening!
