Mrs. Veldkamp's Counselor's Corner
Hello Mustang Families-
This month we are learning about the character trait of “Kindness”. Kindness is defined by PurposeFull People as, “the choice to act with words, gifts, or actions to bring appreciation, positivity, and encouragement to others and yourself.” The best part of this definition is the word CHOICE! You may notice your child coming home from school with a kindness rock or a kindness critter. These small trinkets are provided to help your child remember that each day brings about the opportunity to be kind, and that each kindness done and not done sends a ripple out into our world.
During this month's SEL lessons, each class at MCES will be encouraged to pay kindness forward into the world by participating in a service project. Each class will decide if they would like to participate, and if so pick a service that inspires them to help others. I’m excited to see how our students can impact our school, our community, and our world. Check out our Facebook page on a regular basis to see pictures and updates about our Kindness initiative and the ripple effects your children are choosing to make.
Family Chatter:
Take a few minutes to ask your child the following questions:
· What does Kindness look like in our home? What does it look like in our neighborhood? What does Kindness look like in our extended family, community, sporting events?
· Why is it important to show Kindness to people who aren’t kind to you?
· What acts of Kindness have others shown you lately and how did you respond? How did it make you feel? How does random acts of Kindness help you grow?
Hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Need Behavior Support for Your Child?
SNAP (Stop, Now, And Plan) Program
SNAP is a free 13-week group program that helps children ages 6-11 and their parents learn how to effectively manage their emotions and keep problems small. The primary goal of the SNAP program is to help children stop and think before they act while empowering them to create improved family relationships, positive social interactions, and success in school.
Family Resources offers the SNAP program in Pinellas County and Manatee County throughout the year.
SNAP is for any child who is having a hard time coping with their emotions and controlling their actions. Small behavioral problems can grow into major issues as your child ages, and SNAP works to reverse the trend by teaching healthy emotional responses.
Please see the attached information regarding this FREE family resource. A group for boys begins February 15th. A group for girls begins March 5.
