Blanton's Hawkeye Teacher of the Year
It is with pleasure that we name Tamarra Thiessen as Blanton’s Hawkeye Literacy Teacher of the Year. Each year, Denton ISD elementaries nominate a teacher that is doing an outstanding job of implementing literacy instruction in their classroom and is inspiring a love of literacy with their students.
Tamarra Thiessen is a learner and continually seeks to improve her craft. Language Arts is her love and she teaches the subject passionately inspiring her students. Mrs. Thiessen has been inspired by the training she has received from Homegrown, Assessment for Learning, Summer Seminar and the DFW area “just in time” training from Teachers’ College. She participates in discussions about literacy with her colleagues (grade level and building wide) sharing her new learning. Mrs. Thiessen sets personal goals, refines those goals based on data, and keeps moving forward. She teaches her students to do the same which helps them to further develop their literacy skills.
Congratulations, Mrs. Thiessen.
Socktober Update
Thank you for your generosity and participation donating socks during the month of October. We collected 655 pairs of socks. They will be delivered to charity next week.
We began our candy collection today. Our goal is to collect 500 lbs of candy. This candy will be donated to the Salvation Army to put in stockings for children who are in the shelter during the holidays. You can donate any individually wrapped candy. You can also buy some candy on sale and donate a bag! We collect until Nov 8th! Thank you for helping those in need.

Sadie's Sleigh
We are so excited to partner once again with the Sadie Keller Foundation during this special time of year. Sadie’s vision last year was to collect 10,000 toys for the brave cancer fighters in the hospital over the holidays. Last year, Sadie surpassed her goal by collecting more than 12,000 toys with the support of friends, family, our amazing community, and businesses around the area. With your help, Sadie hopes to collect even more toys this year. Sharing the magic of the holiday season positively impacts the lives of those affected by cancer and is a goal dear to Sadie’s heart.
Our school will support Sadie’s Sleigh by collecting new unwrapped toys during the week of November 4 through December 2nd. A collection box will be available at the (front office, hallway, etc.) The (classroom/hallway/grade level) that collects the most toys will receive (extra time during recess.)
Please help Sadie today by donating a new unwrapped toy!
Additionally, the Sadie Keller Foundation would like to invite you and your family to Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 7th at the Harpool Middle School Cafeteria. Details will be posted soon on the Sadie Keller Foundation Facebook page and promoted throughout Lantana.
