What Does an Immunologist Do?
Immunologists study the human immune system and diseases that affect it.
What Education Do You Need?
- Most jobs require a Ph.D. or M.D.
- Research immunologists have Ph.D. while physicians and pediatricians are required to have an M.D.
- For either type of job you must also have 2 to 3 of training and then pass an exam from American Board of Allergy and Immunology.
- Most positions need a degree in biology, microbiology, or chemistry. The most specific degrees are Microbiology and Immunology and Biological Immunology.
Where Can You Get This Training?
No Georgia colleges currently offer microbiology and immunology or biological immunology degrees. But there are currently two fellowship programs in Georgia. One at Emory University and one at the Medical College of Georgia that you could attend to satisfy your training time.
