Frequently Asked Questions
Where do the classes meet?
You can select to meet at the La Mirada or La Habra class. See below for addresses.
Are there weekly assignments?Yes. Assignments will be given to practice and reinforce the skill taught with each Tuesday lesson.
How long will each assignment take?
This depends on your child. Each student should expect to spend 25-45 minutes 3-5 times a week on their writing.
Are assignments graded?
Yes. I will grade and offer feedback for improvement on each assignment.
Will there be tests and quizzes?
Yes. There will be a weekly quiz to assess grammar and writing progress as well as 2-3 assessments during the session.
Will you accept late work?
Life happens. I will accept late work as long as it is not the pattern. This is a graded class and students are given deadlines to help develop self-discipline and to help me as the teacher keep abreast of progress or lack thereof.
How to we contact you during the session with questions on assignments?
I can be reached by email at JenniferGRichmond@gmail.com or by phone at 562.755.4964
I'm happy to help during the week. Don't hesitate to call.
What if we are late to class or miss a class?
Please let me know if you are going to be late or miss a class. Refunds are NOT given and you will have to get your assignments and any notes from a friend. I will post assignments weekly via email.
Is there a course outline or syllabus?
There is a basic outline of what we will cover, however I will be modifying the class to best suit the needs and skill levels of those who enroll. There will not be a syllabus per se. You'll get weekly assignments via email.
Do you offer tutoring?
Yes. I have several time slots available for private ($60/hour) and semi-private ($20/hour) tutoring for elementary through college students.
What is your educational experience background?
My degree is in English with an emphasis on educational approaches and a minor in history. I speak and train nationally on multiple subjects and have provided seminars for the Association of Christian Schools International at their annual teacher training convention. I have a background in theological studies, Spanish, Greek, and Hebrew. I have been in education since 1988 and now run a para-school program in La Mirada called Eureka. I founded this program in 2010 after teaching in traditional schools for over 20 years. I am currently the pastor of Women's Ministries at La Mirada Christian Church as well as the director and head teacher at Eureka.
