Principal's Message
Thank you so much for helping to make this school year a success. Working with you and your children has been an absolute pleasure. I have had the wonderful opportunity to watch the children grow over this past year and feel fortunate to have been a part of their educational journey.
I would like to recognize the dedicated staff of Petway. I have not met a harder working, more dedicated staff of individuals. Everyone from the teachers to our paraprofessionals to our custodial staff do not limit what they will do to make Petway the Best School in Vineland. Without everyone’s support, bright ideas, and exceptional attitudes, Petway Elementary School would not shine as it does.
I would also like to thank PPSA for all they have done for our students. Through fundraising, special activities and a strong partnership, they have provided our students with very special experiences. Thank you!
I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Vicki Kaffenberger, Petway Elementary School’s 2019 Teacher of the Year and Rhonda Nonnemacher, our Educational Service Professional of the year. Mrs. Kaffenberger is an exceptional classroom teacher who is truly an asset to our school. Mrs. Nonemacher goes above and beyond for all our Petway students.
Congratulations to our Petway Players for a fabulous production of Peter Pan Jr. These children never cease to amaze me. From their auditions to the production, they worked tirelessly to become true actors and actresses. Mrs. Huster and Mrs. Mercado are exceptional in what they do. I would like to thank the many staff members and parents who worked behind the scenes. They are true unsung heroes.
Lastly, I would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy summer break. Encourage your children to read each and every night. Talk to them about what they read, have them make predictions, and think about how the story relates to them. Make reading an enjoyable family past time. Practice math facts: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Students should be able to recognize basic facts automatically. By spending some extra time this summer, you will help your child be ready for the challenges of next year.
Thank you again for a fabulous school year!
Best Wishes,
Jennifer Frederico

First Grade
As the year closes, we would like to thank all the parents for their support throughout the year. We have enjoyed watching the students grow and change. Over the summer it is important to have your child continue to read, read, read! Students who do not read over the summer often drop one to two reading levels, which affects their performance the next school year. Also please keep an eye out for summer work being sent home to work on throughout the summer. A little bit of school work over the summer can payoff really big the next school year. Best wishes next year. Thank you again for all your help and enjoy your summer.

Second Grade
The second graders had a very busy month! We went on a field trip to
the Drexel University Academy of Natural Sciences Museum, and learned so much about animals and their habitats. Upon return ,we chose an animal to research and write an animal report. We then made Google documents and slides with the information from our research.
We are continuing with our community service project by gardening in our school’s butterfly garden. We put effort into making the garden a beautiful place for our pollinators and Petway Patriots to enjoy.
In class, we wrote creative stories, sent them to a publisher, and had our collections of stories actually published in book form! We are also learning about graphing and geometry in math, and in science we are exploring changes in the Earth’s land and water. We are wrapping up the year with assessments and reflections on our 2nd grade learning experiences.
We are looking forward to a great summer!

Third Grade
Students are enjoying a relaxing unit of poetry! Haiku, free verse, and shape poetry have been tons of fun. We are ending the year studying government. We are learning about state and local government, and also learning about the branches of government. Have a great summer!

Fourth Grade
As this school year is draws to a close, Fourth Grade students stay the course steered by the Pathway of Patriot Pride.
Students culminated their Service Learning project by planting a beautiful Dogwood tree donated by our neighbor, Mr. Tobolski, and delivered to Petway by Mr. Sterchele. The students identified and researched trees located on Petway’s grounds and have gained a new appreciation for our interdependence with our environment.
During this very busy time of year, students have also completed multiple projects. In writing, they produced biographical sketches of key people of the American Revolution. Math projects included Name Angles and Perimeter & Area artwork. In reading, students are composing newspaper articles as well as figurative language books.
As Fourth Grade students prepare for the rigors of Fifth Grade and make effortful commitment to character-building and growing continually as Petway Patriots, they wish everyone a restful summer!

Fifth Grade
In Math, students are learning all about Algebra, Patterns, and Graphing. They recently graphed a WONDERful picture of Auggie from the novel, Wonder, by R.J. Palacio. In Science, they are discovering what impact people play on our land. Social Studies has them finishing up their unit on Westward Expansion and moving into Civil War times. We'll soon be reading our final novel of the year, Behind Rebel Lines. Thank you to all the parents who attended our Academic Achievement Night! It was so nice to see all our fifth grade families celebrating their children's accomplishments. Enjoy the lovely weather we're having!
