Common Middle School Experience - Your Input Matters
The Beaverton School District is working on a common comprehensive middle school experience, which would include middle school course offerings and schedules that are standardized across the District. Currently, period lengths vary and the number of elective courses students can access are not consistent.
Your input matters, please take a few moments to complete the survey located on the Common Middle School Experience webpage. On the page you can also view the presentation that was given at the community meeting held at all District comprehensive middle schools on February 6.
Beaverton Hillsboro Science Expo
More than 160 students will compete in the Beaverton Hillsboro Science Expo (BHSE) on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Intel’s Jones Farm Conference Center, 2111 NW 25th Ave., Hillsboro, R 97124. The Science Fair will run from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a public viewing of the exhibition area from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.
The Beaverton-Hillsboro Science Expo, in its sixteenth year as an affiliate of the International Science and Engineering Fair, challenges the rigor of individual and team science explorations across our large and diverse districts. The BHSE provides a venue for showcasing the work of our top science and math students across the Beaverton and Hillsboro school districts.
Do you have a background in science or engineering? Judges Needed! The BHSE is seeking volunteer judges to review student projects. This is an opportunity to both mentor and advise the next generation of scientists and engineers and to select projects that will represent our region in state and international science fair competitions. If you are interested in volunteering as a judge, please visit the Judge Information and Registration webpage.
If you have questions about the BHSE, or volunteering to be a judge, please contact Caitlin Everett at Caitlin_everett@beaverton.k12.or.us
February is CTE Month
Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs engage every student in high-quality, rigorous, and relevant classes, designed to help students to turn their passions into paychecks and their dreams into careers. CTE programs partner with local businesses and industry to create opportunities that promote creativity, innovation, leadership, and are relevant to the job markets of today.
An Oregon Career and Technical Education Program of Study (CTE POS) is a sequence of courses, aligned to industry standards at the secondary and post-secondary level, that integrates technical and career skill proficiencies with academic content. A CTE POS prepares students for the workplace, further education, training, and community roles in high wage and high demand jobs in the following Career Areas.
Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Systems
Arts, Information and Communication
Business and Management (including Hospitality and Tourism)
Health Sciences
Human Resources
Industrial and Engineering Systems
The Beaverton School District currently offers 32 CTE Programs of Study across six comprehensive high schools and one option high school.
CTE teachers in the BSD contribute to our students’ graduation rates and college and career readiness:
The 2017-18 graduation rate for BSD students who earned one or more credits in a technical skill-based course as part of an Oregon state-approved CTE program was 96.77% compared to 86.4% for all BSD students

Beaverton School District is Now Enrolling for Kindergarten
The Beaverton School District is now enrolling for Kindergarten at all elementary schools for the 2020-2021 school year.
Any child who will be five (5) years of age on or before September 1, 2020 is now eligible to enroll for Kindergarten at their designated home school. Online Registration is available for new student enrollment. After the online application has been submitted you will want to schedule a visit to your child's school, prior to the first day of their attending. This visit is important as you may receive school-specific forms to complete. Parents/guardians will need to provide a birth certificate and immunization record at the time of enrollment.
Each elementary school will offer parents an orientation to find out more about the Kindergarten program at their spring Kindergarten information events. Please check the Kindergarten webpage or with your neighborhood school to see when the orientation is scheduled.
If you are uncertain about which elementary school is your home school, you can check any address to see what elementary, middle or high school attendance boundary it is located in using the District Address Locator or call 503-356-4500.
For more information on registering your child for Kindergarten, including a list of
2020-2021 Kindergarten Orientation Dates, Immunization Requirements and much more, please visit the Kindergarten Information webpage.Immunization Exclusion Day
State law requires that all children in public and private schools, preschools, Head Start and certified child care facilities have up-to-date immunizations, or have a medical or nonmedical exemption.
Parents or guardians will receive a letter in early February if their child’s immunization record shows that he or she has not received the required vaccinations. Children will not be able to attend school or childcare starting February 19, 2020, if their records on file show missing immunizations.
The Beaverton School-Based Health Center and the NHC Merlo Station School-Based Health Center are both resources for families in the Beaverton School District to get immunizations.

Safe Routes to School Update: School Buses are the Safest Form of Transportation
February is “Love the Bus” month and there are certainly many reasons to love your school bus! Did you know around 25% of Beaverton School District elementary students are bus eligible, but still choose to travel by car? Our school buses are 50 times safer than passenger cars, help the environment and increase student attendance. Each school bus takes 36 cars off the road which decreases congestion and traffic around schools while increasing air quality with less car emissions. Everyone can help keep kids safe around the school bus. Here’s how you can help:
Drivers must stop up to 25 feet from the school bus when the stop arm is out and the flashing red lights are on.
It is illegal to pass a school bus within the roadway as it drops off or picks up passengers regardless of the direction of approach unless there is a barrier or unpaved median separating the directional lanes of traffic.
Parents should supervise young children at the bus stop and review safe loading and unloading procedures.
Students should stay three giant steps away from the road until the school bus stops and the doors are open.
Students should always cross in front of the bus, stay five giant steps away, make eye contact with the bus driver and ALWAYS check for passing vehicles before entering the roadway.
Visit American School Bus Council for more information about how you can celebrate your appreciation for your bus driver during #lovethebus mont
