Windermere Family Update
Windermere Weekly Parent Update 3.22.24
What a week! I learned from a parent at morning drop off: the legend of 3 snows after the first forsythia tree blooms! On Monday, it snowed for the second time, and I’m hoping the third time is really soon so that spring can be official!
This week on Wednesday evening we celebrated this year’s family read aloud with a culminating service project related to our book, Simon B. Rhymin’. What a fun, meaningful evening we had decorating lunch bags, zooming with author Mr. Reed, and packing 250 lunches for the shelter. Our student council and Mrs. Hemmelgarn planned this amazing event for us to come together, make a difference and learn from a good book! Kudos to all.
I hope everyone has the best spring break next week. If you are at home or traveling, enjoy the time together. When we all return, we will look forward to finishing up 7.5 weeks of school. I cannot believe we are already thinking about wrapping up our year and planning for next year!
Happy Spring!
Julie

“What makes humans happy?”
Dr. Laurie Santos will address this question with our community on April 2nd at 6 p.m. when she speaks in the UAHS Performing Arts Center. Dr. Santos is a professor of psychology and former head of Silliman College at Yale University. Her podcast, The Happiness Lab, is a top-three Apple podcast. This event is part of the Fostering a Conversation series, led by UAHS students, which connects our community across generations through a collaboration of the Upper Arlington City Schools, Upper Arlington Education Foundation & Alumni Association, and the Upper Arlington Community Foundation. You can learn more and get tickets here. UACS Staff receive one free ticket and must show ID at the door. We hope to see you there!

Library Media Center News
Our 2024 Family Read Together of Simon B. Rhymin has now concluded. Wednesday night we were able to meet the author and packed over 250 lunches for the Open Shelter! Thanks to the 165 families who participated in sharing this book with your reader(s) and PTO for their support on this annual event! Don't stop reading together! Till next year!
As we head into April and the final weeks of school, the library has much in store! In April we will highlight on Wake Up Windermere and in our collection: April Fool's Day, National Library Week, Eid al Fitr, Patriot's Day, Passover, Earth Day, and Arbor Day!
When we return from spring break we will begin preparing to host Bob Shea on May 20th! Bob is an award-winning creator of many of our favorite books on our shelves. Please see his website for a full list of his titles. Teachers will be sharing Bob's books with students leading up to this exciting event. Thank you PTO for funding another great experience for our readers! Look for a link in April's communication to purchase a book from Cover to Cover that your readers can have autographed at the event!
