Spring Stress Reduction
The funny thing about self-care and stress reduction is that it can seem like just another task to add to the endless load that educators feel most heavily in the spring of the year. Spring always seems like the start of a brand-new race in schools. Did we cover all the standards? Are our students ready to move on to a new grade level? Have they mastered all the skills we worked on? Are they able to transfer all the skills the way we intended? How can we keep them engaged in spite of spring fever?
Self-care is an important tool in helping us manage the never-ending barrage of questions and worries we have regarding life inside and outside of school. The best tips are to start small. Avoid thinking about what you SHOULD be able to manage and think about what you CAN realistically manage.
Three tips for stress reduction you can work on now:
- HYDRATE: Start your day with 16 ounces of water. Guzzle it down!
- Take a WALK: Even a short stroll can help you redirect anxiety.
- RATIONALLY DETACH from some of the challenges you face each day.
