Thesis Statement
Throughout the novel Walk Two Moons Sharon Creech uses symbolism to bring depth to the story.
Example 1: Tulips
A symbol in the book Walk Two Moons is Tulips. It in my opinion represents love and loss. It is used this way when Sals mom gives birth to a dead baby and they name it Tulip. "The name come from the air. "Tulip," I said." (Creech 149). Second when Sal's Gram passes away from a stroke she is buried in the tulips near her farm. "Gram is buried in the aspen grove where she and gramps were married" (Creech 274). Sharon Creech usually brings up tulips when they are talking about love or loss. It is a main part of the story.
Example 2: Trees
Another symbol used in the book Walk Two Moons is Trees. I believe in this book Sharon Creech is using trees to show compassion. Sal's mom showed so much compassion towards trees she even made "Tree" Sal's middle name. "My middle name, Tree, comes from your basic tree, a thing of beauty to my mother that she made it a part of my name." (Creech 8).Sal also kisses and prays to almost all trees because she loves them. "I put my ear against the trunk and listened. I tried to wrap my arms around it. I faced the tree squarely and kissed it firmly." (Creech 122). Trees aren't only Sal's middle name but she has a connection with them them. Not only Sal but also her mother has this connection.
