Recognizing School Nurse Appreciation Day
This week we recognized School Nurse Appreciation Day! It's been said before and we will say it again -- our learning community has deep appreciation for our amazing team of school nurses -- Ann, Jenny, Lisa and Nikki. They have been working incredibly long hours seven days a week assisting with COVID-19 cases that arise in our community, providing testing to students and staff, and hosting vaccine clinics. These duties are on top of the regular responsibilities they shoulder every school day in our schools. Our nurses deserve our greatest gratitude and respect.
School Health Advisory for Continued Instruction
The Oregon Department of Education and Oregon Health Authority issued a new health advisory in response to the change in CDC COVID-19 Community Levels seen in six counties, including Clackamas County, over the last two weeks and the rise of respiratory disease in communities across Oregon. Clackamas County has moved to CDC Community Level Medium (Yellow).
The advisory is designed to help schools continue providing in-person instruction for the remainder of the school year. The combined burden of COVID-19, flu, and other respiratory viruses co-occuring in our communities means our schools need to continue being vigilant about our health and safety. Masks are recommended. LOSD is monitoring COVID-19 transmission and unusual absenteeism or illness within cohorts; offering free testing for students and staff; and excluding from school, as required by the state, individuals who have COVID-19 like symptoms.
Families are asked to help mitigate the spread:
If your child is sick with COVID-like symptoms, do not send them to school.
Seek a COVID-19 test. Obtain free Covid-19 at-home test kits at Covidtests.gov.
Notify your school nurse
Vaccination remains the best protection against serious illness from COVID-19 and reduces spread of the disease. Get Vaccinated Oregon.
LOSD COVID-19 Dashboard
The LOSD COVID-19 Dashboard is up to date. The dashboard shows the number of staff and students who have reported to LOSD testing positive for COVID-19, regardless of school exposure.
Plans Underway for the New River Grove Elementary School
After collaborating on several iterations of the plans with the River Grove learning community, neighbors, and the School Board, LOSD will present the reimagined River Grove Elementary plans to the Lake Oswego Design Review Commission (DRC) this Monday, May 16. Completing a large project such as this is a process, and the DRC meeting is a key milestone in getting the new school built.
Demolition is scheduled to begin this summer. The River Grove learning community will move into Uplands during construction, and back into their new school by the fall of 2024.
The new school is made possible with funding from our 2021 bond measure. Thank you Lake Oswego voters for your steadfast support of educational excellence!
New Students Appointed to School Board
Transportation Facility Community Open House
LOSD is hosting a community open house to discuss plans for a new transportation facility. All are invited to the meeting on Tuesday, May 24, at Lakeridge Middle School, 6-7:30 p.m.
A lot was shared and learned at the last community meeting, and materials at the open house will reflect the input.
State Assessment Score Reports
This summer, LOSD will deliver students’ state assessment results online through ParentVUE rather than mailing paper. This is in keeping with the district’s strategic goal of sustainability and mirrors how we deliver report cards. Your child’s assessment reports will appear on your ParentVUE Documents page in late July.
As you review your student’s English Language Arts, math, and science scores, please keep in mind:
An achievement level of 3 or 4 is considered to be on track for the student’s grade level.
Scores on state assessments are only one measure of a student’s academic progress. We use these scores in conjunction with classroom work and other daily, weekly, monthly, and term assessments to understand your student’s strengths and areas for improvement.
If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Forgot Password." If you are unsure whether you have a ParentVUE account or need assistance, please contact your student’s school.

Consider a Career In LOSD
Did you know more than a third of LOSD employees are Lake Oswego residents, and many are parents of students in our district? Not only is Lake Oswego a great place to live and go to school, it is a great place to work!
Time to Verify Your Student's Information
- Ensuring that schools have accurate information to reach parents and other contacts in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Verification is important even if your address or contact information has not changed over the past year because the school may have incorrect information from a previous year.
- Confirming parent email addresses for Google Classroom and other applications to participate in your student's learning.
- Enabling distribution of key information in the district's K-12 Family Handbook.
SASEE 2022 Awards Video Premiere
Please join our community on May 18 at 7:00 PM for the premiere of the 6th Annual SASEE Awards! This year’s awards will be presented via video. All are invited to join the livestream on YouTube when it goes lives Wednesday evening.
Each year, the Rotary Club of Lake Oswego presents the SASEE Awards to local individuals who have gone above and beyond to support education in our community. SASEE Awards are presented in three categories - Students, Educators, and Community Citizens.
In the video, SASEE award recipients will be introduced by local leaders including Mayor Joe Buck, School Board Director Neelam Gupta, and Lake Oswego High School student Eileen Koh. Each award winner will share their own thoughts. LOSD Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Schiele launches the video with words of encouragement and celebration.
The 2002 Awards video was filmed at the newly remodeled Hallinan Elementary School and provides a view into the exciting new educational spaces that resulted from the community’s support of the LOSD bond measure.

Parents-guardians who have concerns about a student’s well-being are encouraged to reach out to their principal, and to maintain strong lines of communication and partnership between students, families, staff, and other resources.
