- burning fossil fuels that release carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, and particulates
- motor vehicle emissions
- second hand smoke, gas appliances, furnaces, and stoves
- building materials such as formaldehyde
- radon (radioactive gas released from rocks and soil)
