Bioethics in the News
Controversy in Tennessee
Tennessee lawmakers have caused a stir with a law passed in 2014, which allowed for the prosecution of mothers who gave birth to children addicted to opiates or illegal drugs. However, now there are dozens of advocacy groups calling for the end of the 'fetal assault' law. There seems to be a visceral, emotional reaction in any topic dealing with infants and children, so what are your thoughts? Would this bill prevent vulnerable women from seeking help? Or is it in the best interest of the children? Are there any changes you would make to the law? Let us know on the Facebook page, and your comments might end up on next week's edition of the Bioethics Brief!
