National History Day
Students from South’s National History Day Club have spent the majority of the school year working on intensive history projects based upon the theme of "Taking a Stand in History. The process of creating a National History Day project emphasizes multi-faceted research skills, essay- and scriptwriting skills, website design, and documentary production. The National History Day Regional Competition, which includes competitors from throughout Bucks and Montgomery Counties, took place on Saturday, March 18th.
The three competitors were Jennifer Moretti, Joshua Yeoum, and Connor Barnes. Each competitor aimed to show how their topic was an important stand taken in history.
Jennifer Moretti, a junior, submitted a historical paper about Harriet Beecher Stowe, the author of "Uncle Tom’s Cabin," and her impact on the slavery abolition movement. Her project placed first in the Senior Individual Historical Paper category, which granted her a spot to compete at the Pennsylvania State-wide History Day in early May.
Connor Barnes, a junior, also submitted a historical paper. The topic of his project was the Velvet Revolution, the end of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia.
Joshua Yeoum, a sophomore, competed with a solo performance about Ernest Withers, the photojournalist who played an important role in documenting the Civil Rights Movement.
Congratulations to all of South’s competitors! Your incredible projects speak volumes about your hard work and dedication.
