A HUGE Thank You for Making Our Read-A-Thon Such a Memorable Experience!
Our Liberty School Community is Truly the BEST!
Mr. Gerlt hyped the Read-A-Thon all week and so our students were really, really looking forward to this event. He had staff help him cover windows, so it was adequately dark to magnify the experience of reading with a finger light. Students were so excited and it was such a perfect way to end the day on the Friday before Spring Break began. There was such excitement and positive vibes. 💙
And our Library definitely felt the love from our community. While final amounts are waiting to be verified, initial counts indicate that the are SO, SO many new books that are going to be purchased for our students to check out based on the incredible generosity of all the grown-ups in our lives. Our entire school family is wildly grateful for the funds to continue to improve and enhance the library experience here at Liberty.
Spring Break - Catch Up On that Sleep and Have Some Fun!
The cognitive load will continue to increase as we build skills to fully prepare students for the next grade. These cognitive demands will make little brains tired. It is important to make sure our Little Leopards get enough sleep to allow them to finish the year strong. Check out this short article about the importance of enough sleep for school aged students.
Attendance is SO IMPORTANT!
Our Students Cannot Learn if They are Not Here
Right now we are almost at 91%, so we are close. Working together, we can get our overall attendance rate for Liberty up to 92% or higher!
The attendance graphic will be updated weekly to allow families to see current progress towards meeting this goal.
Lost and Found - Is Your Child Missing An Item of Clothing?
If So - We Might Know Where You Might Find it . . .
Our lost and found is one again overflowing. All items not claimed by April 1st at 3:15 pm will be donated. Students will have the opportunity to carefully consider whether an item of clothing belongs to them.
Please take a moment to stop by and peruse our collection for any items that belong to your child on April 1st if you notice your child is missing something.
Expected Behavior Rotations
Spring Break Seems Like Such a LONG Time When You Are 5 or 6 . . .
When students return to school after Spring Break on April 1st, many find it challenging to remember what the expected behaviors are at school. Therefore, we will reteach all of our students how to manage themselves in the classroom, hallway, restroom, cafeteria, on the playground and in the gym. We will dedicate about 1 hour and 15 mins to this effort during the day. Students will receive addl reteaches in the classroom about classroom routines and procedures throughout the week of April 1-5.
If your child rides a bus to and from school, it is important to remind them of the bus riding expectations before boarding the bus on April 1st.
Be Safe
- Stay seated while the bus is moving
- Seat to seat; back to back - facing forward
- Hands and feet are calm and within personal space
- Backpack remains closed
Be Kind
- Quiet voice
- Appropriate words
Always Do Your Best
- Visit only with the people sitting in the same seat
- Eyes forward or looking out the window
- Watch for your stop and stand to exit only when the bus stops moving
It Is Time to Order a Yearbook for the 2023-24 School Year
Orders are Due April 19, 2024
This ensures delivery of the Yearbook before the end of the 2023-24 school year. Yearbooks are only $16.
Orders may be returned in the paper order form that your child brought home earlier this week, or you may choose to order online:
Yearbook ID Code: 10841824
This is the best way to make sure you get a copy of the collection of photos commemorating this school. While we do have a few extras, they tend to sell out very quickly.

Information about How to Become a District Approved Volunteer
Want to Help in the Classroom or Serve as a Chaperone?
All adults who want to support Liberty as a classroom volunteer or as a chaperone must be on the district's approved volunteer list. There is a background check form to complete (linked below) and submit to the main office. Volunteers will receive an official letter to inform them of their approved status, or an individual can check with the main office.
Designation as an approved volunteer is good for 3 years and once an individual is an approved volunteer, this is good for all schools in the district.

Having Lunch with Your Child at School
Lunch times at Liberty are as follows:
- 11:00-11:30 - Browning, Evans, Johnsen & Ochoa
- 11:30-12:00 - Cienfuegos, McDaniel, Travis & Wilson
- 12:00-12:30 - Camberg, Creasy/Schild, Mickelson & Moreland
Besides providing critically important nutrition, and an opportunity for unstructured play, lunch and recess serve important social purposes. At lunch, students learn how to balance social interactions with meeting their physical needs (eating while visiting). And at recess, students learn how to navigate the social landscape through interactions with their same age peers. If you are joining your child for lunch here at school, we ask that you adhere to the following guidelines:
- Limit the lunch with your child to one time a week, so they can continue to build their skills in eating a complete meal while visiting.
- After lunch, give them a hug and tell them to have a great rest of the day, and then exit the building. Having an adult family member out on the playground at recess disrupts a child's ability to engage in interactions with peers that support building critically important social skills. Also, we teach our students that the adults on the playground are there to keep them safe, and having extra unknown adults at recess creates confusion and uncertainty for both students and supervising staff.
Our playground is available for community use after 3:15 pm every day, so if you want to access the playground with your child, please save it for after school is dismissed for the day. Thank you for understanding!
Milk Only at Lunch
All meals are free to all students at Liberty. However, if a child is only taking a milk with their lunch that they brought from home, there is a 50¢ charge to their meal account.
If you would like your child to take a school milk with their home lunch, please make sure to have funds available on their meal account. Funds can be added to your child's meal account at our main office or via the online My Meal Time portal. Click here to check out this resource: MyMealTime
Liberty Elementary is a Title I Schoolwide School
Liberty Elementary receives federal funding through Title I to support providing a well-rounded education for all students. The eligibility for funding is determined by the community wide poverty rate. And any school with a community poverty rate of 40% or higher is able to offer supports to all students in the school. Therefore, Liberty Elementary is a Title I Schoolwide School. All students receive access to the different supports offered from this federal funding source.
