The flag of Iceland was officially adopted on June 19, 1915. The cross design is modeled after the Danish flag . The color red is said to symbolize the island's active volcanoes and white the ice and snow that covers most of the country and blue is symbolic of the surrounding Atlantic Ocean.
The capital of Iceland is Reykjavik.
geography
On the global agenda, Iceland has been a strong voice in the fight against the pollution of the oceans. Icelandic waters are among the cleanest in the world.A Constitutional Republic is a state where the officials are elected as representatives of the people.
government
Iceland has a constitutional republic government.
economy
The Icelandic economy is on track for its strongest growth since 2007 this year although momentum next year will slow as the post-crisis boom fades.There major import and exports are fishery products.
culture
Located in the middle of the North Atlantic, Iceland was settled by emigrants from Scandinavia and the British Isles in the tenth century. Due to Iceland's geographical location, it was mostly outside the influence of contemporary culture in Europe and America, until the late nineteenth century
climate
The climate of Iceland is cold. The island lies in the path of the North Atlantic Current, which makes its climate more temperate than would be expected for its latitude just south of the Arctic Circle.

history
In 2003 Iceland embarks on its first whale hunt in 15 years. Its government says the hunt is being conducted to study the mammals' impact on fish stocks. The Eyjafjallajokull volcano begins to erupt in March. It spreads volcanic ash across Europe, stopping airline flights and disrupting transportation for months. This happen in 2010.
