ELA
Next week, our last week of school in 2019, students will continue learning about print and digital sources of information. They will be assessing the credibility of sources. We will review and take our assessment over this material to include paraphrasing, quoting, and avoiding plagiarism. Students will also take a quarter end assessment over reading at grade level. This measures their vocabulary, comprehension and reading on grade level.
Please remember that ELA students should be reading each night for at least 30 minutes. This is a good time to check with your student to see that they have some form of earbuds for all classroom needs. Lots of them are on sale now or students may use Hornet Bucks to purchase in the Thrive Hive. The buds help them to be successful each day! Remember books always make a great gift!
AFTER BREAK:
W3A: Students will conduct research to answer a question, drawing on several sources, integrating information using a standard citation system.
The first week of 2020, students will be reviewing the skills needed to write a research paper. They will begin the brainstorming and prewriting phase. Students will be researching to answer a question they have about a nonfiction topic. They will be expected to develop a five paragraph paper. Please remind students to bring library books back after break to ensure they can check out some new books for the new year.
