TECH STRETCH: FlipGrid Response
Week 2 Tech Stretch: One of the easier first steps to using FlipGrid is to post a response. A response can be to a topic, or to someone else's response to a topic. There are a variety of ways one can respond; emoji, written or by video. Try it out! Below you will find attachments for:
- Two tutorials for 2 ways to respond on FlipGrid.
- A staff grid and new topic if you need something to respond to (although there are many grids if you'd like to respond to something different).
- A link to our Google Slides on tech.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
STAFF ONLY:
Staff Google Form: Please complete the form regarding 8th promo and student contacts.
Alternative Distance Learning Week 1: Student names of those who picked up a packet for week 1 alternative distance learning will appear on the Distance Learning Master List by McGuire each week. Please take note. Week 1 we had between 10-15 students per grade use this option.
Alternative Distance Learning Week 2: Please consider quantity of work for alternative learning. A few classes were on the heavy side for week 1. NEW this week is to add Advisory. Week 2 lessons are due by Sun eve, will be printed Mon, and distributed Tues to families.
Tech to Kids: Chromebooks for families that have been determined as a "need" will be distributed Tuesday 11:30am-1:30pm. We have a little over 120 of our kids who will be receiving one. Please remember these students will be new to the online show, and may need some extra love, support and instruction on all things how-to.
Enrichment: New for week 2 is the addition of Enrichment! Please share with kiddos that Enrichment is a great addition for them to try as an extension to something unique, fun and creative. Consider ways this can be highlighted throughout the week within Zoom or announcements, etc. We are asking that enrichment activities be posted as a separate assignment (and attachment) within the classwork section of Advisory. Please ensure you have topics in Advisory similar to what you have in content - by each week's date. Here is the link to the enrichment slides, directions and example. Please email J Penn with any questions.
Advisors Please Post: Advisors! Edwards and Anzelc have a new grid named "Treasured Pirates) we'd like to share schoowide. Please add the blurb and grid link to Advisory pages, in addition to a shout out and mention within CPR. Thanks all! The grid link is direct to the new topic "social distance and kindness". The following message can be copy/pasted to your post in Advisory: Pirates! Ms. Anzelc and Mrs. Edwards created a grid to keep us all connected. WE MISS YOU! The name of the grid is called "Treasured Pirates". Each week they will share a new topic for you to join if you wish. This week's topic is on kindness, specifically kindness during social distancing. Watch their video first to see what directions and examples they give for next steps and for your responses! Happy sharing!
Continuing Weekly/Friday Emails: This topic has come up a few times and will be facilitated by grade level leads within the next week. The first step in processing this topic though, will be to touch base with our families to gather clarity if this is something that is still desired or needed under the current circumstances. More to come within your grade level.
At-A-Glance Docs: ARE AWESOME! NICE JOB TEAM! KEEP IT GOING! New this week is to add Advisory.
Special Education: Services will continue as originally shared by LeighAnn. LeighAnn will also be joining each grade level meeting this week to share more details re: services, support and what you can expect down the way.
FlipGrid: Staff you have a new FlipGrid! Check it out and respond! Link for the new topic is here.
Staff Well-being: Team Pirates we care about you. We would like to host an optional team meet about all things change and what that means for how we process and our well-being. If this is something that is of interest to you, plan to join Taniia Tuesday 11am on the 14th. More info to come.
Zoom CPR: Hey all! If you're already facilitating CPR via Zoom at a regular time can you doc your time and follow the directions on the distance learning guide pg 7 so others can join, too. THANK YOU!
Docs Filled Out: THANK YOU for filling all things out! Please continue to complete the at-a-glance docs and alternative learning docs by Friday each week.
Google Classroom PD: Team PD! Please continue to check in with Google Classroom PD as it will have the latest and greatest for what to think about or complete prior to PD each week. A chunk of it will be doubled up in Pirate Press for the first few weeks. :)
PARENTS & FAMILIES:
- Activities: As shared in our family letter from March 20, all activities have been cancelled through the end of the school year. One exception that is still to be determined is 8th grade promotion. You will be informed on next steps regarding this event. Next steps for DC and Science Camp trips are still being worked on. You will also be informed on next steps regarding these events. We expect more information on these two events mid-April.
- Counseling Team: We care about your well-being. Click here to access information on counseling services or to request support during distance learning. Mrs. Edwards or Mr. Brinkmann will be in touch with you regarding your request. Students and parents are encouraged to reach out as needed.
