Sam Houston Elementary Mission
From Principal Cavazos
Greetings Sam Families!
We've had a wonderful start to our school year. We want to thank our parents for their support as we get all students back in school.
We want to encourage all parents and guardians to be a part of our team to support building a love of learning in your child. Our goal is to ensure all students are developing their reading and math skills each year. These foundations are important in order for your child to reach great success in school.
Here are a couple of ways to help your child at home:
Have your child to read every day. Helping your child become a reader is the single most important thing that you can do to help the child to succeed in school-and in life. Reading helps children in all school subjects.
Have your child to practice their math facts every day. This extra practice helps the brain transition facts from short-term memory into long-term storage. Practicing can be as easy as doing flash cards and asking your child to practice in the car on the way to school, or at home.
Students in K-5th grade can practice using the different applications in their Classlink platform: Learning A-Z and Epic for Reading, Xtramath for Math, and Stemscopes for Science. If you need help, just ask your child’s teacher.
We appreciate your support as we build a partnership for your child's education. If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to call and set up an appointment to speak with me, a staff member or your child's teacher. We are here to help.
Let's have a great month of September!
Respectfully,
Michelle Cavazos
