TWO SCOOPS
- Please see the explanation below Instruction During Quarantine of how instruction will be provided while students are quarantined. This is different than previous quarantine plans, so take note.
- Devices will be distributed this week. The Tech Agreement that students are asked to sign can be found below. Even if a student has their own device, we ask that all students check out a school device. The school device works better on our network and allows for easy access to our software center, printing and other resources. It also helps streamline instruction and troubleshooting in classrooms when all students are working with the same access on the same platform with the same tool.
Instruction During Quarantine
If your child is absent from school due to being quarantined, our teachers are prepared to do the following:
- Create a Google Classroom for each class
- Post all assignments (with links) in a timely manner
- Be prepared to start instruction for quarantined students on or before the students third day of a consecutive absence
- Connect with students once a week (during school hours) for classes that meet each day (email, Google Meet, phone)
- Provide feedback on work done outside of school on a weekly basis
- Follow grading guidelines and timelines
- Explicitly teach students how to connect with the teacher, request help and access learning resources
- Provide instruction in multiple modes (screencastify, videos, slide shows, exemplars)
It will be important for your child to check their school email and Google classrooms daily.
21-22 Chromebook Agreement
Your assigned Chromebook is intended for educational use both at school and at home.
- You are expected to be responsible, respectful, and safe while using and caring for your device.
- You are expected to bring your Chromebook to school and classes every day with a fully charged battery.
- If you damage or lose a Chromebook, you and/or your family may be held responsible for the full cost of repair or replacement.
- If you fail to return the Chromebook and charger at the end of the school year or upon withdrawal, your family may be held liable for the full replacement cost of the device.
- Replacement cost for a device is approximately $280. Replacement cost for a charger is approximately $40.
By signing this contract, I acknowledge that I have read and understand the Kellogg Middle School expectations of having a school district Chromebook for my learning. Signing this form does not supersede any information distributed by Rochester Public Schools (ISD #535) in the Student Behavior Handbook.
Student Letter
This letter was sent to students this evening.
Comets,
Welcome to the 21-22 school year!
I wanted to remind you about a few things for this week:
- Monday (tomorrow) is an orientation day for kids that have never gone to school in the Kellogg building before. If you have ever attended school in-person at Kellogg, DO NOT COME on Monday.
- 6th graders will start orientation in Advisory.
- 7th & 8th grade will start orientation in the Cafeteria.
- Everyone should come to school together on Tuesday. :)
- Everyone starts in their period 1 class.
- Tuesday will be an A Day.
- Devices will be handed out this week.
- Grade 6 – Monday with your Advisory
- Grades 7-8 Tuesday and Wednesday during Target
- Bring your device every day. Charge at home overnight.
- Breakfast and lunch are free for everyone.
- Breakfast will be grab & go. No sitting in the Cafeteria before school. Eat in your period 1 class or on your way to class.
- Lunch will have seating charts by Advisory again.
- If you missed pictures during Open House, they will do them again on Wednesday!
- All students have been assigned a locker near their Advisory. You are also allowed to carry your backpack with you throughout the day. Try to carry most of your things in your backpack and use your locker as little as possible to avoid close contact with others.
- After school bussing
- Lots of adults will have a bus list at the end of the day. We are happy to help you find the right bus. Just ask!
- There will be an activity bus for athletes that need to attend practice at Century after school.
- Locker rooms
- Locker rooms are closed. Please report to the gyms on 3rd floor for Phy Ed class.
- COVID Safety
- All students and staff are required to wear masks in the building. Masks are not required at outdoor recess.
- Please do your best to stay 3 feet apart.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
