January 2017 Edition
Thought for a New Year . . .
“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're Doing Something.”
—Neil Gaiman

Remote January Grade Level Meeting
For all classroom teachers of ELA in grades K-6, the January 19th grade-level meeting will be a "remote" meeting conducted via the Teaching Channel. An activity will be posted on your grade-level team in the format of what the Teaching Channel calls a "Learning Step." This activity will include watching one or more of Randi's process writing videos and reflecting on what is observed as well as reflecting on your current work in process writing. This will give grade-level teachers a good opportunity to reflect, share ideas, and collaborate remotely as well as giving all a dedicated time to review these valuable videos.
Teachers may use the scheduled hour of grade-level time on January 19th to complete the learning step (the activity will be posted on this day), however, the assignment will stay open through the end of the school day on January 20th if a teacher should prefer an alternate hour to participate. All grade-level teachers should log on and complete the activity by this time.

Exemplars Teaching and Learning Update
We are excited about this visit. Please expect the recorded lessons to be on the Teaching Channel by the end of the week.
Dive in with this exciting resource. Colleagues within and across grade levels can support one another. The problems become increasingly difficult with every grade, but the problem solving process, the standards for mathematical practice, and the problem solving rubric are all shared.
