Consideration Form 2024-2025 School Year
It's that time of year!
The staff at Rockburn Elementary School is in the early stages of planning for the 2024-25 school year. As part of this process, we would like to give you the opportunity to share some information that you would like for us to consider as we begin to make class groupings for the next school year. This consideration form is for you, as parents, to relate specific information about your child that you feel would be beneficial as our teachers meet to determine next year's placement.
For example:
• “My child seems to work much better in an area that is more self-contained.”
• “My child is very shy and often knows the answer, but is afraid to raise his hand.”
• “The behavior plan used this year worked very well. Please continue to provide this structure.”
When placing students, the staff and administration utilize a wide range of criteria, which are supportive of the Howard County philosophy of grouping. Some of these criteria include, but are not limited to:
• Written output
• Need for extra reading help
• Recommendations from the guidance counselor
• Test results
• Balance of female and male students
• Reading strengths and needs
• Special education requirements; IEP goals
• Structured versus non-structured needs
• Personality of the child
• Information from previous teachers
• Others
There are certain concerns that we cannot consider as part of this Consideration Form: therefore we ask that you not use this form to propose the following:
• Specific teacher requests,
• Grouping based on siblings’ experience,
• Grouping based on friends,
• Grouping based on hearsay.
Your response is optional. All consideration forms are due by Friday, May 24th at 4:00 p.m. Please do not ask us to accept letters after this date, since the process will begin immediately after that date.
Career Day Volunteers Needed
We are planning a career program for our 4th and 5th grade students. It is scheduled for Monday, June 3, 2024.
We are interested in parents and individuals to discuss their career paths and professions. Each presentation should last about 10 minutes. Then, we will include some time for questions from the students. Please be prepared to present four different times to fourth small groups of 4th or 5th grade students.
This is an in person event. Please complete this form by Friday, May 3, 2024.
Please note that regrettably we will not be able to select everyone that is interested as we have limited openings for presenters.
Please contact the following with questions:

Mrs. Kelly Clark (school counselor)
MCAP Testing Dates and Information
MCAP Testing - Dates
We are approaching our state testing season which will kick off with our 5th graders in March. Our students have been working hard all year and this will be their opportunity to show what they know in regards to the standards they have been taught. Please see the testing dates below for grades 3-5.
*In the event that testing dates need to be changed, we will communicate that information to families.
Just a few reminders:
Please try to have students here and on time on testing days so they do not need to be pulled out of class instruction for make-up sessions.
Please avoid coming to sign students out early during testing sessions. Once a student leaves, they are not able to restart that test session.
Personal electronic devices (cell phones, ipads, smart watches, etc.) are not permitted in the testing areas.
Routine is important when calming any nerves when it comes to testing. Keeping to normal routines both at home and at school will help students to do their best.
Students need plenty of sleep in order to maintain the stamina needed to do their best.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your homeroom teacher or Ms. Meyerson at nicole_meyerson@hcpss.org.

From our Diversity Committee
What are your family traditions?
Here at Rockburn, we love celebrating our students and our wonderful cultural diversity. Celebrations bring us together in joy and connect us all. Please fill out this survey so we can learn more about the holidays our Rockburn families celebrate throughout the year. It's fine to leave answers blank- only fill out what applies to you. We know the best people to teach about holidays are the students and families who celebrate and practice those traditions. If you would like to help present information or would let your student present information about your celebrations, please let us know. We love learning from our amazing community!
