Keep Living The 'Ohana Life!
Our core values at Newbury Park High School are gratitude, inclusivity, kindness, support, connection and simply being a good human being. What can you as Panthers do to embrace the 'Ohana life? You can:
- Continue to encourage your children to be the best human being they can be when they are interacting with their peers and the staff at NPHS.
- Celebrate The Successes! No matter how big or small the success is, celebrate them each and every day. Talk about and recognize those successes as an individual, a family or even as a whole community. It goes back to being grateful for what we have not tripping over ourselves for the next big thing.
- Monitor how your children are interacting with others on their cellphone. What are they posting? What comments and videos are they posting about other people that are negative, hurtful and unproductive. Positive and negative actions will have consequences, How can we avoid the negative?
- Instead of fostering a culture of excuses and blame, push your students to work harder and not to give up when something becomes difficult. Instead of quitting and giving up, push them to find the solution or the answer to their problem. If your child has an unsatisfactory grade, what are they doing? You should be requiring them and confirming they are going to office hours and going to the tutoring center. The help has always been there, they need to take advantage of it. As soon as they learn it is okay to quit and find the easy way out, they will continue to do that.
- Finally, set the tone in your household that disparaging, hurtful and derogatory comments are unacceptable in person, group chats, social media posts, our just "joking around" Set the bar high and never lower it. Instead of handling struggles and issues in a positive manner, too many individuals hide behind the war of words and comments to solve a problem or issue which never solves the actual problem, it just creates a bigger mess.

Active April Is Here!
Keeping active is a great way to boost our mental well-being. So this month we're encouraging everyone to get moving and get outdoors as much as possible. Whatever your circumstances or physical limitations, you can find your own ways to be a bit more active. We don't need to run marathons - there are simple things we can all do to take care of our bodies, like unplugging from technology, reconnecting with nature, and getting more sleep!" Check out the flyer below for ideas and resources.
