South Grove Intermediate School
News and Notes for December
From Mrs. Reid
Happy Holidays South Grove Family!
The holidays can be a stressful time for all as we try to fit in work, homework, extra-curricular activities and preparing for our upcoming break. Please be mindful that students still need to have quiet time to do their homework and to read their AR books. Continue to have conversations with your student about how school is going. You may need to play "20 Questions" to get some answers, but it is important for them to know that you care about their education at South Grove.
As always, we wish you all the very best during this holiday season. We look forward to a bright and wonderful 2016!
Mrs. Reid, principal
Please bundle up as the weather gets colder!
Servant's Heart Project
We have decided to partner with Servant’s Heart again this year to provide Christmas for local families. For the past 10 years, each classroom has adopted a family to provide for at Christmas . This has been an amazing experience for everyone and Servant’s Heart continues to be overwhelmed with the generosity of the South Grove families. Last year we were able to brighten Christmas morning for 28 families, including more than 40 children. Each class will collect money and will choose a family from the more than 200 families on the waiting list at Servant’s heart.
Each of our 25 classrooms will adopt a family of children. The students bring in cash donations up until the 16th of December. Last year we collected close to $3000. The teachers select two students (usually by a lottery system) that are able to go shopping for the family that their class has adopted. This year our shopping day will be December 16th. The school takes a bus with the teachers and students to Meijer for a 2-3 hour shopping trip. It is up to the kids to work within the amount of money that has been budgeted for the family. The gifts are brought back to the school and the whole class participates in the wrapping of the gifts.
We need your help!
South Grove is in need of gently used clothing for some of our boys especially sizes 8, 10, and 12. Anything you have to spare would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much for supporting our students!

Just a few reminders...
Cafeteria Policy
Students who bring Hot Cheetos, Doritos, or any kind of bag of chips may only bring a single serving size to lunch. Also.... carbonated beverages are not permitted at breakfast or lunch.
Morning Drop-off
Students should not be dropped off at school prior to 8:05. If you are here early with your student, they must remain in your car until 8:05 and then there will be an adult to supervise them prior to school starting at 8:35. Please understand, leaving your student at school prior to 8:05 means they are unsupervised. Thank you.
