Battle of Antietam
The battle of Antietam lasted 8 hours and was the deadliest single day battle. General Lee
Had orders to confuse the Union troops, but one of the Confederate soldiers officers had lost his copy of General Lee orders. So 2of the Union soldiers found Lee's orders and gave the orders to General McCllean. Antietam was a key victory for the Union. About 6,000 soldiers died and about 1,700 more were wounded. After this battle President Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. The reason why the Battle of Antietam is important to American Citizens is because President Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation to free slaves.

Battle of Gettysburg
It was almost an accident that a serious fight took place. As Lee's troops were looking for rations to live off of Lee's troops encountered the " enemy", Lee's troops crawled out of Gettysburg. Four grueling days later, Lee's troops suffered 25,000 casualties. Gettysburg was a Union victory, the Union lost 23,000. The Battle of Gettysburg ended the Confederates hope of gaining help from Britain and France. After the fourth day of defeat at Gettysburg General Lee offered his resignation to President Davis ( Confederate President) but Lee's resignation was refused. After the Battle of Gettysburg the Union President aka President Lincoln wrote one of the most powerful speeches in American history aka the Gettysburg Address. The reason why the Battle of Gettysburg is important to American Citizens is because the Battle ended the Confederates rights to the free slaves in the North. And the outcome is the Gettysburg Address in which President Lincoln said was over freedom and democracy.

Battle of Vicksburg
The Battle of Vicksburg was one of Unions successful war campaign. The Union General Grants first attempt to take Vicksburg Mississippi failed. So the Union used the Anaconda Plan to cut the Confederate States in half and the Union succeeded. The Battle of Vicksburg lasted 47days. The Confederate lost more than 9,000 casualties and the Union lost 10,000 casualties. Many soldiers died of disease and starvation.
