Solar Eclipse 🌚🌞
Many of you have probably heard that on April 8, the Atlanta area will experience an 80% partial solar eclipse. The partial eclipse will begin around 1:45 p.m., hit maximum at 3:04 p.m., and end at approximately 4:21 p.m.
Since the best viewing will occur after school is over, we will not host a viewing party at school. The county is providing solar glasses through which students can safely view the eclipse at home. We will also be educating students about this exciting phenomenon so they can better understand what they are seeing.
It is essential that all students, parents, and staff understand the safety concerns connected with this event. Looking directly at the sun without protection, during a solar eclipse or otherwise is dangerous. You risk damaging your retina and the worst part is that you may not feel the damage until 4-12 hours later. We will be going over the expectation of wearing the solar glasses outside and the importance of not looking directly at the eclipse without the glasses on as it can cause permanent damage to the retina of the eye. We encourage you to reinforce this message with students at home.
If you have concerns or would like to check your child out early so you can view the eclipse as a family, please plan to check your child out prior to 1:00 p.m. Absences and early check-outs on Monday, April 8 will be marked excused.
Prior to Monday, April 8, please review the safety expectations with your child(ren) regarding wearing the solar eclipse glasses when viewing the eclipse.

2nd Semester Science Force Volunteers Needed 🔭
Science Force is back for second semester! Ms. Howell or Ms. Justice will act as the STEM lab leader and parents will lead each of the preplanned stations while the students are in the lab as well as help with setting up and taking down the lab if needed.
Please register to volunteer as soon as you sign up. Make sure you give yourself 2 business days to ensure that your information is received at the school. Please be careful to use the name on your drivers license when you register. Siblings are not allowed in the lab for safety reasons.
Fourth and Fifth grade parents need to verify the letter identifying their child's specials group prior to signing up. All students should know their letter and the correct group will also correspond to the day of the week that they normally attend the STEM special.
Full lab information will be sent to parents who volunteer. Thank you so much for volunteering!

Parent Placement Consideration for 2024-2025 🧒
State Bridge Crossing is committed to providing students the best possible learning environment. An enormous amount of time and effort is devoted to placing each child appropriately. Parent input is one of many factors considered as part of the placement process.
If you feel that your child has unique learning needs or if there are other pressing considerations you would like to bring to our attention, such as separating best friends or family/personal challenges, you may choose to complete this form by Friday, April 12. At that time the form will close. Late entries will not be accepted.
Safety Controls Survey
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Department of Program Evaluation is currently evaluating the Security Controls Program for FCS. As part of this evaluation, we are surveying students in 3rd – 12th grades about their feelings and opinions of safety and security at school.
FCS has contracted with Health Management Associates (HMA) to evaluate this program and conduct the survey. All information gathered from the survey is entirely anonymous and will be used to guide decision-making to improve the safety and security of our schools.
The survey will open on March 25th and will take no more than 15 minutes for students to complete. As a parent or guardian, you have the right to view the survey questions in advance. Please get in touch with your child’s principal if you wish to view the survey questions.
Please note that the district is also conducting a survey on school nutrition at the same time. Thus, if you have a student in a different school, they may take that survey instead. The district used random selection to assign each school only one survey for their students to take to reduce the number of surveys we ask of students.
Thank you.
