Dear Families,
February was eventful and March is a very full month for the Brown School as we continue to offer diverse opportunities for students to celebrate learning! Please read on to find out more about how we wrapped up Heart Month and Black History Month in February, and how we are kicking off March with Read Across America Week, Music in our School Month, Grades 1-3 Concert, and our STEAM Fair!

For familiies interested, the Marblehead Task Force Against Discrimination continues its celebration with a Family Book Read. Read on to see how your family can participate.
It's Time for the BROWN SCHOOL STEAM FAIR!!!!
The Brown School will hold its Second Annual STEAM Fair will be held on Thursday, March 28th! Last year's event was truly an empowering opportunity for our students to show off their thinking skills. Students may work alone, with a partner, or in a group of three. Students are asked to begin with a question or a problem to be solved, and then follow the scientific method to investigate and/or work towards solving.
If your child would like to register, SIGN UP HERE!
To ensure this event is both safe and successful for everyone, please keep in mind these reminders and tips:
1. Safety is important. Projects must avoid contact with dangerous chemicals, sharp objects, highly flammable materials, open flames, and/or live animals.
2. Keep all of your notes, sketches, research and ideas in a notebook or folder.
3. Don’t throw away plans for ideas that didn’t work. Use these to show the design process.
4. Remember to take pictures and/or video to use in your display at the STEAM Fair.
5. All presentations must fit into a space 3 feet long by 2 ½ feet deep.
*We are so grateful to our Brown School PTO for sponsoring this event. No great event happens without the help of many volunteers, and we are still in need of people to help with set up, break down and helping students with their displays. Please help us if you can!
SIGN UP HERE TO VOLUNTEER AND HELP MAKE OUR STEAM FAIR AS SUCCESSFUL AS POSSIBLE!
We are looking forward to a spectacular 2nd Annual Brown School STEAM FAIR!!
Music in Our Schools Month
We kicked off Music in our School Month this week with our first LOBBY LIVE! performance this morning! Last year, we also had a few students who had been studying music outside of school share their talent as well. Tuesdays and Thursdays will be designated as student performance days this year. Student performers should be prepared to share 3 selections, and should be comfortable performing in front of an audience. The 15-20 minute time period is far too long for one elementary student to perform, so there are 3 slots for each of the student dates. If your child has been taking music lessons and/or participating in a music group outside of school and would like to share on one of our student days, PLEASE SIGN UP HERE. There are a few slots to fill but they will go fast! Sign up today.

We had a VERY successful Kids Heart Challenge Month! We had 232 students register and raised just over $20,000 for the American Heart Association!!! Thank you to all of the Marblehead students and families who supported this annual effort congratualtions to these students for completing Finn's Mission!!

I am so grateful to Mrs. McGrath for all the work she continues to do to keep this program going at our school. She recently received an email from a parent who summed it up beautifully:
Dear Mrs. McGrath,
At dinner tonight, (our children) were sharing that the favorite part of their day was PE class and playing the heart game. We heard all about the ventricles and atria, not to mention the food groups necessary for heart health (and some lung action just for fun)! Our family is super impressed with your creativity and commitment to the Kids Heart Challenge- theme. Great job and thank you on behalf of (our) kids and all the Brown students. They’re lucky to have you!

Thinking ahead to summer.......
Are you already thinking about local Summer Camps?
There are a variety of area summer camps operating in Marblehead each summer who hold non-profit or municipal status (YMCA, JCC, Recreation and Parks Dept.) The Marblehead Female Humane Society, also a non-profit charitable Marblehead organization, offers scholarships for families requiring assistance. Our school counselors work with these agencies to help eligible families aware of the scholarship opportunities available to them. If you are in need of a scholarship for a local summer camp, please feel free to reach out to your child's school counselor or CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION.
