Eclipse This Week
Every student at CiMS this week had access to a pair of eclipse glasses. Teachers brought students out to witness the celestial event.
Effects of Caffeine on Students
Review this article regarding the implications caffeine can have for our students.
- Caffeine is the most widely used psychoactive stimulant in the world
- It's the only addictive substance that we readily give to our children and teens
- Caffeine remains in the bloodstream for 5-7 hours
- It blocks the compound adenosine in your brain which causes more issues with sleeping
Scientists have studied the impact of mind altering drugs on spider ability to create webs. Take a look at the diagram to the right. This particular study showed that "caffeine led to the most disorganized and chaotic webs, showing that even a substance as seemingly harmless as caffeine can have a dramatic impact on the behavior and motor skills of spiders" (May 2023)

She confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before– keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

Monthly Love and Logic Tip
Calming Sibling Rivalry: Four Quick Tips
April 10 was National Siblings Day, which is intended for siblings to honor their sisters and brothers. Parents want to see their kids grow up together and continue to be friends throughout their lives, but sometimes siblings can go through stages of being best friends, or not getting along. To help with this, Love and Logic created tips on how to address sibling rivalry and help keep the family atmosphere healthy.
Some degree of sibling rivalry is normal, and it can provide opportunities for our kids to learn essential life-long relational skills. This can happen when adults have skills for ensuring that these conflicts don’t grow into resentment, hurt feelings, or family chaos.
- Nurture each of your children’s unique strengths and gifts.
When children are noticed and appreciated for their unique interests and aptitudes, they are less likely to perceive that their parents have “favorite” children.
- Provide strong and loving leadership.
Love and Logic is all about helping parents become, and remain, loving and strong authority figures. Much of this is achieved by providing consistent and enforceable limits.
- Stay out of the middle, while guiding them toward solutions.
Many struggle with the temptation to rescue kids from each other by placing ourselves in the middle of their conflicts. When parents give in to doing so, we send a very unhealthy message: “If you want some attention, all you have to do is start a fight with your brother or sister. Then I’ll swoop in to rescue.” Parents can avoid this by guiding their children toward learning how to resolve their own conflicts.
- Use the “Energy Drain” technique to encourage them to problem solve.
When kids do something that drains energy, parents who use Love and Logic expect kids to replace this energy by doing things such as completing extra chores or staying home from an activity so that their parents can restore their energy instead of driving their kids around.
Although we can’t ensure that our kids always love and appreciate each other, Love and Logic believes we can create a home where it’s always in their best interest to work hard at doing so.
